I personally would never pay over MSRP for any car, no matter how it holds up to it's competition. If you're on the fence, and you can get the Evo for MSRP or below, I think you know what to do.

You know, this is probably one of the single best comments I've read about, giving a easy, quick comparison of the Evo vs the STi.

Also, the STi by itself is an amazingly well-balanced car. Only when compared to the Evo is its habit for mild understeering exposed.
I still respect both cars greatly. It's just ashame that we get greedy little *****es for dealerships here in SoCal.

Ok, so I just went this morning to Big Valley Subaru to change the oil in my WRX, and after that I drove to Miller Mitsubishi (never been there before).
They had a yellow Evo in the showroom with the hood up, so I sat inside of it (first time), and the Recaros are simply sublime...I've never sat in more tight, hugging seats. The steering wheel felt really good too...nice and small.
As I was examining it, a salesman opens the door and sits next to me, trying to sell it. No offense to him (Vincent Curto), but he knew NOTHING about the car.
Him: Don't let the 4 doors fool you. This is a serious car.
Me: I know.
Him: See that button over there (FMIC spray)?
Me: Yeah.
Him: This car has a big "coolant". You just press that button.
Me: I know.
Him: If a car has this many vents, you know it's for real.
Me: Sure, I know.
Him: From the, uh, big red brakes......
Me: You mean Brembos?
Him: Yeah, yeah...to the...uh...special tires...the uh....Mich...uh...
Me: Advans?
Him: Yeah, yeah! Everything is functional.....even this big wing.
Me: I know. So what's your price?
Him: Hmmm, let's see....$41,000
Me: (literally laughing out loud) And how does that add up? Actually wait, what's your markup?
Him: $9,995
Me: (laughing again)...so we're pretty much in Porsche Boxster territory...
Him: How much are you willing to pay?
Me: $29,000. It's a beautiful car, but it's not worth $41,000 to me.
Him: So you're telling me if I can give you this car for $29K, you're buying it?
Me: Yeah, only if I don't get my STi first.
******
I know you guys said talk to Adam, but I just wanted to get a feel for the car first. Again, no offense to Vincent, but he knew nothing, and it demeans the customer when you start talking about a $10,000 markup. That's ridiculous. On his business card it says he is the former WBF Cruiser Weight Champ.
Oh well, he may be. But I know more about the car than he does, and he's supposed to sell it to me.

Even the woman at the Scooby display at the NY Auto Show, after my talking to her for a few minutes about all of the specs of the car (I knew far more than she did), I told her I wish the wing was an option. What did she say, you guessed it, "It's functional. Everything on this car is functional."
IMHO this car will be a tough sell to anyone who doesn't already know about it, and who doesn't already recognize the wing's "function".

I think it was the jensen stereo that broke the camels back and that is why he chose the evo over the sti. the wing functions as roll bar in case of a rollover-functional!
