Plastic Undertray Clips: Easier Alternative?

Has anyone found an easier alternative to the stock undertray clips that don't require drilling/modification of anything? Possibly at the very least, cheaper clips from Autozone or some sort of screw that fits? Has anyone attempted using a type of self tapping screw or a bolt of some sort?

Changing my oil soon and I don't feel like spending the $$ on a Carbing undertray.

Or if there is no alternative, what is the easiest method for removal without breaking them?

I would like to save the $$$ and use the stock undertray...but I'm dreading the clips breaking. And at $21 for 20... that's expensive.

Why would they break? I take my under tray off all the time and they don't break on me. I never had a problem on my VIII either with them breaking

There are diffusers on the undertray that direct cool air to the brakes on both sides. Don't get rid of it.

The trick to removing these things are to use a philips and flathead. You take the flathead and lightly pry at the bottom of the clip while using the phillips on the head of the plastic screw.

I have to say I like the torx screws on my VW better, although the tray is easier to reinstall with the fasteners. With all the road salt around here I prefer the cover on.

I hate these clips too - seems like they are on everything now - I also use the dual screwdriver method

they are a major pain. Last time I took mine off to get at something I had droped down there, I broke 4 of them. The trick is to apply zero pressure to them as you unscrew em'. It sounds weird but you will understand what I mean if you've done them before

they do break over time. but juss be careful when removing those clips. u can try to get some push in clips from other cars mostly on toyota highlanders but i think they are about the same price but easier to remove.
