EGT & Boost gauge in the stock radio opening
OK, I've searched and asked various people about the HU relocation to the bottom cubby hole. You guys are great, thanks for all the good info.
Here's what I've done so far. I've got an Alpine CDA 9813 receiver & the harness adapter. From one of my old cars I kept a Pyle powered subwooofer and I've got a 10 ga. amp wiring kit from Crutchfield. I've also ordered the Part MZ598263EX - CD Changer install kit from http://www.mitsubishiparts.net I've also decide to add 2 gauges in the space vacated by the stock radio. I found the Autometer Sport-Comp EGT gauge on ebay for $132.50 and also the Sport-Comp boost gauge for $51.50
I was actually thinking to go with the SPA digital gauges but they are soooo expensive... I would have spent in the neighborhood of $600 to $800 for those 2 gauges
Anyway, I should be getting the CD changer install kit next week and I think that the gauges will arrive about the same time. I also found a piece of textured black plastic at Hi-Fi buys that should work out really well as a mounting surface for the gauges as well as a cover for the upper DIN opening. I'll be posting pictures and details after the installation which is scheduled for next weekend.
My friend who'll do the installation is extremely good at these things and very perfectionistic. He already decided that the wires, vacuum lines, etc. will be routed with the main wiring harness. This will require the drivers side fender liner removal along with numerous other plastic trim pieces. I'm very excited about this project now. It will be much easier to add the e-manage or equivalent modification plus any type of EBC or MBC now that the gauges will be in place.....
Now I'll just go raid my piggy bank again and start ordering the cat back, e-manage and EBC as soon as this part is done
