disconnecting exhaust....
i want to keep stock exhaust on for quite reasons....but i also want good performance....would benifit me to disconnect my exhaust before the cat for track days and such? i would have 2 tunes for stock then track-exhaust.
what are things that could go bad....or what do i need to watch for....i might just get a small tube just the help direct the exhaust downwards to prevent buring anything underneth....unless you dont think that is an issue.
thnx for the help.

Serious answer: While you could probably do that, many tracks have noise restrictions and I imagine you will be kicked out pretty quick. Honestly though, removing the stock exhaust is a pain in the ***, you are better off just replacing it with a stealth or quiet model.
Unless this is drag racing, then the noise issue doesn't apply.
EDIT: One of the shops here makes a downpipe with a cutout, you may want to look in to that.

You can run an open downpipe, lol...why you want to keep the stock exhaust and have 2 tunes is an odd choice. What do you mean by track exhaust? If you have an open downpipe there is no exhaust.

well that would be a track like exhaust.....just dumping off the DP.....just somthing i was thinking about to save some money since im not going to track to often at this point....but mantain a quiet DD just by hooking up the DP to the cat...
and run 2 tunes.....a higher boost, more fuel, less timing tune for the track, then have a stock boost, stock settings for DD....i have wideband O2 and OPENECU and fairly good knowledge of tuning to do this...

how bout you just get a test pipe and cat back and if noise is a big deal then instead of just disconnecting it after the downpipe, why not put a test pipe and cat back on for at the track?

How about buying a 3" downpipe, test pipe, and then an electric cut-out, and have an exhaust shop mate it up to the stock exhaust?
Then, you'll have pretty much stealth exhaust for daily driving, then flip a switch to open the cut-out and have an open exhaust. Best of both worlds.
