evo winter oil temperature

I am in mid Michigan and this might sound nuts but the oil temp on my evo is never above 50C unless i am sitting still for a long time. Is this something that is going to harm the motor should i move to a lighter weight oil next winter or block off the oil cooler a little. I have also heard that they is a thermostat in the oil cooler lines but i don't know if this is true or not.

I do understand the oil pickup is in the drain plug and that is going to be the coldest point but the oil is also moven and mixing pretty good when the motor is running.

Any thoughts

I run between 60-70 degrees at night when its in the 40's. In the summer when its 100+, I'm usually around 90-110

i don't think is any problem, cause the OIL TEMP is measured at the very end of the oil pan, and it's also exposed to cold air when u drive(oil temp is connected to the drain plug) , and i think that's why when ur not moving it the oil temp goes up, cause the cold air is not cooling it down. so u should be fine, oil is hotter than what the meters say.

See i would think that too but last night i drove 30 miles back to my house shut the car off moved my DSM out of the bay and pulled the evo in and changed my work cloths and came back out started to drain the oil and it was barely warm to the touch.

sometimes, when it is really cold in the NE, my needle barely moves. other times when it is really hot out the needle sits right at 70 C. simply nothing to worry about when daily driving. Now on a hot day at the track it would be something to keep an eye on...

I have a Defi BF Oil temp guage and the sensor is attached to a sandwich adapter where the oil filter is screwed on.

I see temps b/w 80-90C during the winter and run Mobil 1 5W-30. During the summer it can get up to 100 and on the track 120C. For reference I'm in Michigan too.

no worries, the stock oil temp gauge doesn't work right. It reads too low, useless POS. if its in the 30s or 40s mine doesn't even move.
