2007 Excise Tax for your Evo
#33
General cost-of-living is much higher, though.

I guess it depends on what your income is as well.
Local tax in PA varies. My area is 1%. Two miles away in the "city" limits its 1.5 percent. Philly is much higher. There are also places in PA with no local tax.
I have four cars (down from six last year). 2005 Evo, Rx-8, X5 and 2002 VW GTI VR6. I would hate to think of paying tax every year for each of those.
Of course we do pay a yearly registration fee, so we could consider that a sort of tax really.
I've been through about 26 cars (lost count) in the past six years so, motor vehicle excise tax would get expensive.
On a final note, in PA we only pay tax on the difference of what we are buying vs. what we are trading. For example:
Purchased car: $50,000
Trade $20,000
Difference $30,000
We pay tax on the 30k so its 30k * 6% = $1800. Once and done.
Some states like CA pay their sales tax on the original purchase price regardless of trade. So they would pay tax on the 50k not the 30k like we do.
See, tax laws suck.

Damn guys< I feel your pain..... Like someone mentioned here already in OH, you pay only once. I heard about that though, and I was shocked, why the hell would you pay it every year.
I was talking to some girl in SC she told me they all go to the other state, buy the car and register it there (I think) this way they cheat taxes. At least she did, I think she's got someone in that state, that what makes her being able to register it there.
OR got me though, no tax whatsoever, not even sales

Texas is a very tax friendly state....I guess being the "oil" state helps. That is one reason Bush keeps an address in Texas so he can claim residency and not pay personal income tax. He isn't from Texas and spends very little time in Texas but he uses the tax system to his advantage.
Can't say I blame him, I'd do the same if I could.
Every state and many cities within a state have different and sometimes confusing tax codes. NJ sales tax just went to 7% last year (from 6). In PA we're 6% but Philly charges 7 (1% to the city). NYC is similar with a city tax in addition to the state. I work near Delaware where there is no sales tax. You should see the stores in DE right over the PA border
Although be happy you aren't from the UK or Australia. Their VAT (value added tax - similar to our sales tax), can be over 25% - Check out the UK mags at border or barnes and knobles. See the adds where they mention the VAT. Also their income tax can be high.
I few years ago I bought a sportbike. Paid 10k new. In the UK the same bike was 18k U.S. I bought a riding jacket and orderd it from Belgium b/c we don't pay VAT since we are in the U.S. It was cheaper for me to order it from there and ship it half way around the world then if I lived a block away fromthe store and walked in the store to buy the Jacket....due to VAT. In this case the grass is greener HERE

NV too we have it every year and it's added up to your yearly registration. It decreases every year as the ACV of your car decreases also.

Yes, Taxachusetts sucks.
$71.25 for me in Boston for my 03'. when i first bought the car back in 03, i think they calculated my tax wrong becuase i only paid $250, the advantage of getting the car when it first come out. i think the $250 was based off of a regular Lancer and not the Evo. whatever....
