your best bet is to take to an exhaust shop and have them cut the exhaust a little bit and re weld, make sure he is a good welder

There are 2 methods. I recommend the to do them in this order.

Method 1.

Call Buschur Racing and ask what is recommended. Then follow their suggestion.

or

Method 2.

This will not cost any money and does not involve rewelding the exhaust.

Perform this at your own risk.

The results from this method may increase the angle in which the exhaust tip is pointed.

I do NOT have a jdm rear bumper, but I did reposition the exhaust tip on my car in the same manner (minus cutting the mid-section) and that is how I thought of doing this method listed below.

1. With the muffler section already on the mid-section, make a mark on the mid-section pipe where the muffler meets. Proceed with step 2 and dremel the inside weld of the muffler (only until it is smooth enough that the mid-section pipe will slide in all of the way).

2. Use a dremel to grind down the weld inside of the bullet muffler. You only need to make it smooth. IF you grind too much, you will grind through the pipe as well and then need to have the muffler rewelded. This should only happen if you pay absolutely no attention when you are grinding. This weld acts as a stop for the rear section of the exhaust. When you grind this smooth, you can push the muffler on farther.

3. Now that you can push the muffler farther onto the mid section pipe. You don't want to push the muffler on too much farther because the pipe will then be inside of the perforated area (which may affect the exhaust note). Slide the muffler section onto the shorter mid-section and postion the tip accordingly.

Judging from the pictures of the jdm rear bumpers, the distance in which the muffler is slide onto the mid-section pipe will be great enough that the mid-section pipe will be inside the perforated section of the muffler.

4. Place the tip PAST the end of the bumper. This is important. The hot exhaust gases may melt, or even catch the bumper on fire. For this reason, it is important to position the tip past the cutout on the bumper. The hanger that holds the mid-section will not be affected. The hanger that holds the muffler section will be pulled back slightly, but should still work for the application.

AT this step, if the tip cannot be positioned correctly in the bumper cutout DO NOT proceed. If this is the case, take the exhaust to a professional to be modified and you have not damaged the muffler.

5. Make a second mark around the mid-section pipe with the tip at the new location. Measure the distance between the first mark and the second mark (it is important to measure the distance BETWEEN the marks).

If the distance from the end of the pipe to any of the marks is measured, this will be the INCORRECT length to trim off. This measured length is how much you want to cut off the end of the mid-section pipe.

6. Remove the mid-section pipe and cut the measured length off of the end.

7. Now, you make assemble the exhaust back onto the car.

By measuring the distance that you slide the muffler farther onto the mid-section and then cutting that off of the mid-section pipe, you can keep the same amount of pipe in the muffler as originally intended when it was manufactured. This means that there is no pipe inside the perforated section of the muffler.

Good luck
