Interior
The gauges are simply amazing. Almost perfect. I shouldn't even begin to compare the EVO ones here. I really like the shift light/buzzer function - it's a cool gadget. The seats are ok, but EVOs are clearly superior. The steering wheel - the best thing about it is that it is thick (reminds me of my RSX), but unfortunately it is larger than ours. Also the shifter feels loose and vibrates a bit.
Exterior
Its been discussed enough already, so I will just confirm that the scoop is huge and it shakes when u drive. This is without a doubt my least favorite thing about this car. The wing also shakes, but that doesn't bother me as much.
Power
Both cars where in the break-in period, so I had to stay under 5k. The car is faster (in a straight line) than EVO, but EVO "feels" faster. EVO just looks and feels "lighter" also since there is no turbo lag in the STi you don't feel that "rush" when the turbo spools up.
Handling
Since it wasn't my car I was driving, I obvioulsy didnt want to push it hard, so I can't really comment here. I will say though, that there is less body roll in the EVO and there is very noticable difference in the steering.
In summary, I am very happy with my choice. I had a deposit on STi since January and I changed my mind "in the last second" and bought the EVO. Having said that, they are both simply amazing and I would be more than happy with either one of them.

In fact, the Imprezas have an air cooling problem, especially at higher speeds, so they made the scoop bigger to allow for more air to enter the TMIC.
That new scoop is obviously better at catching air than the previously model, since a German STI 03 driver has had his hood come off because of it. Not fly off, but unlock and jump up an inch. He modified it to close a little better, but is now worried.

You'll laugh, but I have already seen people post on forums that they have caught a bird in one of those scoops! Seriously.

Keeps you safe and alive -among other things.
And not to be a wise ***- But all I now know is that there is a German Subaru board. Still not saying it's not true. Just still like a picture or a translation, something. Maybe someone who is reg'd could babelfish the page or something.

This link is not about the bird, it's about the hood coming off!
I will help you with the translation
The user with the user name "Micky" states
Ich habe den Sti 03 und mir ist die Haube bei etwa 180 bis zur Sicherung geflogen. Meister hat Sie dann aufs Maximum festgestellt und trotzdem wackelt sie noch ab 140 an den Kanten.
The user with the name "Profeus" then states
noch eine STI 03 Haube, die aufging...
Meine ging bei 220 auf.
Bisher Einzelfall, heute auf der A3 wieder Haubenflattern,
echte GPS 250 bei 6500 Umin. (kein Limiter)
Heute blieb sie gottseidank zu.

mine opened at 220 km/h
This does not seem to be an isolated case, today on the highway A3 my hood was movng again
my GPS indicated 250 km/h at 6500 rpms (no limiter)
Thank God today it stayed closed"
Elsewhere, the user with the name "Stukkialex" (in charge of club wear) states
hatte auch schon das vergnügen das die haube in die sicherheitsraste gegangen ist, aber "nur" bei 160km/h hat mir aber vollkommen gelangt.

Interesting stuff there maybe a recall here, similar to TT spoiler which also first reared it's head in Germany. German drivers seem to be the "canaries in the coal mine" when it comes to high speed issues. Probably something can be retrofitted a new latch or secondary catch.TWT
BTW ....now where's the bird in the scoop pic!

"On the way home the other day a bird darted out of the hedge and I braked to avoid it, looked behind, nothing on road, so I assumed it got away.
This evening when I lifted the bonnet to check the oil etc I found the poor little chap lying dead on the intercooler with a few feathers blocking the fins. He must have flown down the air scoop."
"This happened to me in Wales. I was going round a slowish corner at 40 mph when a small bird flew in front of the car from a hedge. I saw the bird hit the front and roll over the bonnet disappearing down the scoop I pulled into the verge as soon as safely possible, stopped and lifted the bonnet. Laying on top of the intercooler was a female Chaffinch. I gracefully placed it in the grass by the roadside."
"It's happened to me in my MY2000. I was driving towards Brighton on the M23 and a bird flew from a hedge. I tried to slow and it hit the scoop. Anyway, all that was left was a few feathers sticking to the top of the intercooler scoop, quietly fluttering away.
Never did find the rest of that bird!!"
Will that do?
