Parts needed to make a boost leak test adapter
I was planning on doing a boost leak test today--and followed the parts list from a website at http://www.vfaq.com/mods/ICtester.html.
Basically--this is INCORRECT for the EVO 9. The diameter of the turbo inlet is 2.5", and the inner diameter of the intake hose is 2.5". Therefore the piece of 4" tubing that you need would also be 2.5" INNER DIAMETER (ID). The PVC cap OUTER DIAMETER would therefore need to be 2.5 or thereabouts.
I just wasted money trusting that the above mentioned directions were correct. I got home--took the intake piping off, and found that the rubber tubing was waaay too small to fit the turbo inlet. I tried to stretch it over the inlet just to make sure but it wasn't going to happen.
So for those of you that want to make one---you actually need:

So for those of you that want to make one---you actually need:
- 4 inch long piece of 2.5" ID (Inner diameter) hose. (I also found that NAPA was really the only place in town to find something like this.
- 1.5" ID PVC end cap. Measure the cap's OD just in case to make sure it will work. (Find these at HOME DEPOT or LOWE's
- 2 band clamps that will fit around the 2.5" pipe above. (Get it with the tubing at NAPA)
- A valve stem (Find these at the typical auto store)

Alright---here's something that is cheap--easy--and it works because I just success did my boost leak test last night with it.
Go to Lowes' or Home Depot.
Get the rubber coupler (in the PVC section) that has a "2 inch" opening on one side and the "1.5 inch" opening on the other. Get the PVC end cap that is sized at 1.25.
I measured everything already so it will work. Put everything together in it's obvious spots, and that's it. I used my sears air compressor to do it and worked like a charm.

Right, not saying that the unit doesn't work in it's function, but rather the measurements as they were written were incorrect. I just wanted to clarify for others looking to do this. There's a lot of good info on here, but some of it needs to be tweaked for simplicity, clarity, and accuracy.
Someone might go and do what I did, trusting the information as it was written and waste money buying the wrong sizes. it was only minimally off though...changing the OD to ID was pretty much all that needed to be done. But the one I made from Lowe's was literally less than $8.00 to make.
I spent twice that at Napa getting the wrong sized radiator hose and finding out after fab'g up the adapter that it actually didn't fit the turbo inlet on the car. Sie la vie. But just wanted to clarify for others that have yet to do it since information is so scattered on the site.

I agree with you, info is not always clear. I bought many stuffs before to make it works. As soon as you've done it once, it becomes obvious
BTW, it's "C'est la vie" . I have to correct it, I'm French
