From NSX Back to Evo!

Well, it looks like the NSX will be sold after 3 year which is the longest I have owned any car. I used to have an Evo as my daily driver. However, I was feeling guilty for having too many toys. Plus I often wanted to drive the Evo more than the NSX.

So I sold my 03 Evo 3 years ago. Now I'm looking at a daily car that can be fun. Was looking at used S4 for $30k. Not as much modding upside but more class. The A3 is sweet. That turbo with chip, sport suspension and the sweetest transmission on the market bar none is tempting. Fun but not as raw as the Evo (which may be a good thing for daily car I don't know). They are also rare enough the I won't loose money on it.

Then there is the notion of a used Elise for mid $30's. I have not driven one but I wonder if I would get sick of the kit car build quality and potential rattles. A 540 6 speed would be a beast. I'm all over the place.

But the Evo seems to be calling me. The final car it has to beat out is a car that is totally different. A 928S4. For those that don't know it is Porsche's only V8 sports car from the 78-95 and went for like $85k. My friend will sell me his 5 speed which is rare for a good deal. Since I have had every other Porsche and an Evo as well I am really considering this. www.cardomain.com/id/amacc

Here are some questions I have in condidering buying another...

1. Is the MR worth it? I know the main difference is the 6spd and Bilsteins. The question is whehter these are worth the $3k... Does the 6 spd make it faster like with the NSX (kept it in VTEC mode, 20 extra horses also helped). I drove them back to back and can't tell. However, the MR ride was less bouncy. I like the fact that my girl might be able to sleep without her head bouncing off the seat so much. If you like the raw race toy feel some may prefer the bouncy "business" feel. Which car handles better?

2. I was driving next to a new Silver SE and it looked incredible. Is the new silver different from the old 2003-2005 years? It seems to have a bit of blue-ish hue and a sweet wet look.

with the money you save from not getting hte mr you can get a really nice suspension. for daily driving i think the mr is just another shift you have to make. drops the rpms 100-200 i believe. the tranny alone isn't worth it in my opinion..

i would go with the SE. nice interior couple little extras that make it unquie from every1 else.

Here's my 2 cents...

1.) To me, the MR is not worth it. There has been some discussion that the 5 speed in the "GSR" is a stronger tranny than the 6 speed in the MR. I have also heard from my 1/4 mile friends that the MR isn't as fast in the 1/4 mile due to an extra shift.

The MR does have a softer ride due to the Bilsteins, and that sixth gear does help a little bit on the highway. I drive back and forth to work in my GSR and doing 75-80 on the hwy = 3500 rpms+.. the 6th gear in the MR might help this somewhat.

In the end it comes down to what you plan on doing with the car I guess.

2.) As far as I know it's the same silver. They did change the paint names for the IX. For example, my VIII was "Tarmac Black" and the IX I have now is "Labrador Black Pearl". Turns out they're the same color though. I know that they have gotten rid of yellow as a color option, graphite grey (gun metal color) is now offered, and the "blue by you" that was offered on the 03,04s was changed to a darker "electric blue" in 2005.

Hope that helps and hope you decide to come back to the Evo world.

i have had a 05 ssl gsr and currently have an 06 mr.

i do think the 3k for the mr is worth it. i love not hearing my tranny wine common with the 5 speed. my girl sleeps fine in my car. and you get the hids with the nice seats.

btw, how much are you selling ur nsx for. i'm interested. might have to sell the evo for it.

I think an NSX is the only car that I could (realistically) give up my evo for.

It just doesnt make sense to buy a car thats 15 years older and with twice the miles for the same price though.

I love my NSX. It is a very good, flat cornering car. Being mid-engine you do need to learn how to drive it in corners or else you will spin. I have headers and an exhaust, the sound is intoxicating.

People always ask which is faster and which do you like better. Well, a modded evo is faster in the quarter put at some point above 110 mph the nsx will reel it in and has a higher top speed. It also handles 1000% better at those speeds.

When it is all said and done if I couldn't have an evo for a daily driver and had to pick one, it would be the NSX but not by a huge margin.

As far as the Audi and the Porsche. I wouldn't go there. To many things could go wrong and parts are very expensive on those older models.

A nice new SE is IMHO the best choice out of all the cars you have mentioned. I like little things about almost all the different Evo trim levels but I would stick to any of the 5sp models if you plan on modifiying the car for more power. As many have posted the 6sp is weaker. IF YOU KEEP IT STOCK then get whatever flots your boat.

Good luck

i really like the bilstein setup in my ix mr. the dampening seems alot better than in my evo viii. feels lighter and more nimble.

now i can't compare to the stock ix suspension. i am not sure if they changed that on the gsr and rs or not. i know from 04 to 05 they softened up the dampening a bit, but i don't know for sure if this hold true from 05 to 06.

i do like the 6spd, but i don't like the fact that i can't get a short shifter for it. other than that, it is nice on the highway for cruising, although honestly it's not THAT big of a difference.

the biggest reason i ended up getting the MR is that they didn't have any SE's in graphite gray. if i could have found the SE in GG i probably would have got that. that way i could have had the aluminum fenders and roof, along with the special finish bbs wheels. and that sexy front lip. one of the pluses to getting the MR (with appereance package so i didn't miss out on that lip or the nifty red stitching) though is that mine came with the zero lift kit. so i got the air brake cooling guides and spoiler extension.

you might just want to get an SE, i think it is a decent bit cheaper than an MR with the appearance package.
