Swapping 5 to 6 speed..

Hey guys, I was just wondering if it's possible to swap a 5 spd evo to a 6 speeder? Any1 ever attempt doing it? Will anything go wrong if I swap mine to 6 speed? I'm planning on doing that later on that's why. Get back at me when can guys. I appreciate it, Thanks.

I haven't heard anything about going from 5 to 6 speed. If Mitsu gets wind of you switching it out, they most likely void any future transmission warranty issues. Something to think about

A lot of members prefer the 5 speed over the 6 speed anyways.

sure it is, but 5 speed is the champ for the evo. especially living in hawaii where the 6th gear is not really needed.

5 speed is stronger and lighter than 6 speed

i love 6 gears. but 5 is better

6 speed is better for high speeds...thats about it

But back on point. Yes it is possible to switch your tranny to the 6speed tranny. Dont forget the shift linkage!

I cant really say you will get much more speed from the 6 speed, as the final drive is very similar. i found i also get poorer fuel economy with the 6 speed i have now over the 5 speed i had on previous 05 evo. I am sure you can swap it, but you would need to swap shifter as it is totally different design as well.

I dont know about the gear ratios gear for gear, but i know i used to go through th etraps at 7200rpm in 4th geat on my 05 @116

with this one i get like 108 in 4th, I would really like to know how the 5 and 6 speed gear ratios compare to one another as well as the diff between VIII and IX evo's to. but that is for a different thread.

He is saying the person wants to swap because he's cruising at 90 and he wants another gear. I don't think it's realistically another gear by numbers, I think the rest of the gears are a little closer ratios.
