No, it doesn't make a difference.

I just remembered.. Mobil 1 isn't a full synthetic anymore from what I've read. They now use a group III base.
Where did you read that?

Read it a few places online... some here, some at other forums. I don't know if that statement is accurate though, so take what I say about Mobil 1 with a grain of salt.

I accidentally got 5W-30 the last time I changed my oil. I used it anyways and I have notices that the car runs a little better when it’s first started. It's not really cold here in Va so I was kind of surprised that it actually made a difference. One other thing that I have also noticed is that the 5W-30 mobile1 that I put in seems to be less prone to turning black (unlike the previous 10W-30 that I had been using, that stuff turned black after a couple of hundred miles). I have in no way done any technical testing; this is all based on my own observations.

I use Mobil 1 15w-50 during the summer. Lots of hills in the northeast and looking for max engine life. Probably losing some power though.

<--- concerned with the longevity of the motor...

If the oil turns black faster, doesn't it mean that it would be a worse oil for the car? Also how did you find out? Did you let some drip out of the oil drain?

Does anyone have any evidence that oils other than Mobil 1 (eneos, redline, RP) are better? As in... they change colors to black slower? Or is my logic incorrect?

oil is supposed to turn black when run in an engine. that means it's cleaning your engine properly. if it came out gold after 3K i'd be worried.

In my opinion another good oil is the mobil 1 synthetic 0/40 used in all Porsche turbo and non turbo cars since 1991. I work at a dealer and we haven't had any problems using that. Haven't heard about any problems or engines failures of any sort due to oil weight. I just changed the oil on my car at 500 miles and will probably change to 0/40 for the future oil changes. My dealer here was fine with me bringing in my own oil also if I have the change it. I get lifetime oil changes for free but I am not sure I want to use 10/30 in it for summer use as this was the original thread question. Then again, I'm sure the Mitsubishi engineers chose this oil for a reason just as the Porsche engineers did for their cars.

OEM calls for 10w30. Higher weights can damage oil pumps. Lowe weights can be too thin for adequate protection.

People use the heavier weight when its really hot out, I don't see why you want to use lower weight during summer.

Just look at the owner manual you will find the specifics for oil for all weather
20w50 is running fine in mine, 325awhp or so tho

It will be fine. Just the fact alone that you use a synthetic as needed for these cars is enough to make up for that fact of weight. But rule of thumb...lighter in winter a bit heavier in summer.
