sorry but the 1st number isnt for cold temp ONLY or else why wouldnt all manufacterers use 0 weight to get good lubricated starts! come on its simple logic.

notice turbo cars usually tend to use heavier weight in general because of the heat breakdown.... please dont use 5w30 and beat on it in the heat...

I just remembered.. Mobil 1 isn't a full synthetic anymore from what I've read. They now use a group III base.
hmmm... is this gonna cause a big issue later? maybe after 10 oil changes?
i also hear AMS oil is better than Mobil1

i also stick with 10w-30 mobile 1 as it's instructed in the factory manual. you can go down in weight if you live in colder climates.

Not sure if this still pertains to Mobil's current formulation, but before, their 5w30 was thicker cold than their 10W30 (using independant testing).

I'll soon be using Castrol 0W30, which is thicker than Mobil 10W30 both cold and hot.

The numbers doesn't really mean squat since there is a designated range for an oil to be claimed as 10W, 5W, etc (the range overlaps).

i was just at concord mitsu for my tint and permaplate and they told me they use 5w-30 as well, and it's hot out there (guy said 85 is average and they hit triple digits). still wondering if that's good or bad...

It Doesnt Matter Unless Youre In Cold Weather Climates!!! As Someone Has Already Stated, It Acts As A 30 Weight Once Warmed Up.

Also, The Manual Says You Can Use 5w Just 10w Is Optimal In Temperate Climates

So in Michigan we get pretty cold a lot of the time in the winter i don't even see any heat on my oil gauge. We get 0 or below in the north i am kinda borderline on the oil switch temp from the manual all last winter i ran 10w 30 and it seemed to be fine i am kind of worried about the no temp on the oil gauge i know with our equipment that we make we like a oil temp range not to cold not to hot.

So what does everyone think about the really cold oil temp's?

Is it just because the temp probe is in the drain plug and the air under the car cools it to a lower temp then it really is.

Or should i put some cardboard in front of the oil cooler to block some of the air.
