Question The Future of Tuning?

It is inevitable now that cars with alternate fuel sources will be around at a much greater scale within the next 10-20 years. This may not apply directly to evos, although it could be a possibility in the future. So to all of the tuners out there, what are your thoughts as to what will happen to tuning? Have you guys been thinking about this at all? What kind of modifications do you guys think will be available if gas powered cars become a thing of the past? Everybody feel free to post your opinions, but how are companies like AMS or Buschur, for example, preparing for these changes in the not so distant future?

I think once electric powered and fuel cell cars become mainstream, there will be a major reduction in performance. Just like the late 70's emission laden hoopties. IMO the current performance cars are at or very near the pinnacle for performance. I mean really, did you ever think you could walk into a dealer and buy a 700-1000+ HP street car? Say that 20 years ago and people would have thought you escaped the loony bin!

Electric cars will be far faster than cars with combustion engines... Do not be fooled. Maximum "torque" from 0 rpms!!! Just wait till the performance gurus get their hands on electric car technology of the near future.

Almost all of us have seen that with the Tesla Roadster, 0-60 in what <4 seconds? Crazy!

Electric motors have instant torque, take a few winds off the motor and it will spin faster but make more heat, Changeing the brushes will often effect performance too. Not to mention all the battery upgrades and wireing upgrades.

If we go all electric instead of hydrogen or we run some sort of mix you can bet there will be plenty of mods to do. If you have any experiance with remote controlled race cars you know about all the differnt ways to improve electric perfomance.

On a final encouraging note if a dremel motor can spin at 70000rpms wouldnt it be feasable to have a car motor that reved to 250000, thats way beyond even the reaches of a crochrocket. With a 250000 red line a car could have only 2 gears a go fast gear and an economy gear. Theres plenty of other things to consider as well. Too me the future looks bright but expensive untill we work out all the bugs.

Regarding "alternate fuels" Shiv from Vishnu has already made great strides in showing good power can be made from E85. Nothing to fear

And you will need to recharge the battery in 10 miles if you drive the car hard. The 150 mile limit for the Tesla is driving tyhe car at approx 40-50mph.

yeah unfortunately that's an issue that needs to be fixed. it kind of reminds me of the battery issue that occured with pacemakers. they couldnt find a battery that would last long enough for it to be useful until the lithium battery was created. some type of reaction that can last really long is the issue that i think needs to be brought up regarding the electrical standpoint. any input from the pros would be great.

It really doesn't matter what happens regarding a fuel source people will still want to hotrod their cars. The only difference will be it might be a bunch of nerds with pocket protectors who install the parts and tune your car.

One cool thing with the electric motors is not only do they have instant torque but, it never trails off like an IC engine you have the same torque at 5 RPM as you do at 5000RPM. Instead of bigger intercoolers and turbos there will be larger heat sinks and MOSFET's.

Maybe they will look like bumper cars with the grid over head providing power and killing small animals.

actually electric motor torque trails off with speed. they make max torque at 0 rpm and it continually drops off after that.

This is a broad topic.
tuning depends on the engine and fuel.

The future holds different types of engines. Internal combustion and Electric motor as well as different fuel sources such as hydro, battery, gas, E85, pure ethanol etc.

As far as E85 goes, it's not much different than normal gasoline. Good power can be made? Sure. E85 is higher octane than normal pump gas. However, it does take more gas in relation to our normal pump.

The future of tuning? Wait for it to come. you can't predict it.

i dont think e85 will hinder tuning at all, only make our cars run that much better. what i am worried about is automakers making the ecu alot harder to tune

in regards to the electric motor running from the batteries. ive read once or twice that they are either experimenting or already have installed a rechargable system that works with your brakes. when you hit the brakes the friction somehow recharges the batteries as long as you hold them. the only bad part is this would be best applied to city driving. still something interesting.

would the hydrogen engine be able to be made to make alot of hp? ive only read slim articles and from what i understand the engine is... well very different from the gasoline engine as far as how it functions and makes its power. cant just put bigger injectors and add more air lol.

anyone ever heard of the car that runs off of cooking oil?
