Removing sticky black undercoating...

Was wondering if someone can recommend something to dissolve or remove the spray on undercoating used on our Evo's? Whoever applied this stuff to my car managed to get it all over the driver side shock body, spring, insulation boot, and mounting arm. If there was a paint-safe chemical that could be sprayed on then washed off, that would be ideal.

My M3 used a different sort of coating, and (surprise surprise) was put on well. The coating on the M3 had a similar look to cosmoline, but hardended to what felt like stiff rubber over time. The stuff used on our Evo's on the other hand is a mess... I've gotten that stuff all over me, and it's a pain to wash off.

Anyway, I just want to get the overspray removed from the front shock; not the rest of the vehicle.

That sounds like a good option. I assume you just put thinner into a spray bottle? Did it require a lot of scrubbing to remove the residue?

Only bad thing with the thinner is I'd have to do this when there's no wind (I don't have a garage). Definitely bad joo joo could happen.

Wait... just realized that the MR Bilstein shock body is painted. So, I guess thinner is out. Will try the kerosene, but thanks anyway for the spray bottle suggestion.
