Evo Windshield
Got a chip in my windshield yesterday from the flying rock of DOOM ....and got it patched today. Looks like crap
A replacement with labor is sorta cheap...like $260. They stated they don't order from the manufacturer...but its "exactly the same windshield". I looked on their computer screen when they walked away and it just said "Lancer".
Now I know the glass is thinner on the evolution for weight reduction, however does this extend to the Windshield as well? Any experts out there, I would really apprieciate the advise on what to do here.

dont take it... bite the bullet, make an insurance claim and have it fixed with a factory glass..
I had my rear glass shattered last week, still waiting for the repair shop, who is waiting on the glass.. the rear window was 575 alone, without labor, which usually ranges from 50 to 100 more.
the windshiled is a larger piece of glass, although without the wiper hole or the defroster wires, but it will probably cost at least 500 for the glass alone. make sure they order the right one, have them call the dealer if they have to.

Well I dont run that low of a deductable...so making an insurance claim would probably do more harm than good at this point. I will see what my dealer says when I go get the fluids flushed next week.
Still, any other opinions out there?

i got a tiny rock chip in my windshield the second day i got my Evo... although it bugs the hell out of me to have it there I don't think it's worth replacing a $500 windshield for a little crack.. as long as it doesn't spread. I've gone over 130mph (on a track of coarse ) and it hasn't gotten any bigger... I say leave it.

Too bad you guys don't live around here. Its the law in my state that windshields have to be replaced for free by the insurance company if they become chipped/cracked.
Had it done twice on my previous cars. No $$ from the owner whatsoever, and no premium hike either (unless its abused). ::

Not that it is really related to this topic but, does anyone know why there is no tint at the top of the windshield from the factory?

Anyways, I think the windshield is "shaved" too, or at least lighter-weight. It's strange, though - my girlfriend's Integra get's chips and cracks from the lightest pebble, but the Evo has been pretty durable despite the boulders heaved at it by traffic (now that I've said that, I'm bound to get a chip)...
