I let you all down this morning...

This morning I spot a S2000 on the horizon so I move in for the kill. We round a corner and are off at full throttle. I didn't pull at all...it was dead even all the way to 4th. So I park for work...pissed because I couldn't pull on a stock S2000. And then it hits me.....I HAD A/C ON!!!!!!! DAMN!!!! So I'm sorry guys. Anyways..I had to vent.

I sure hope having the A/C on doesn't make that much difference. I'll see if I can track down some dyno graphs showing difference between with and without A/C. Most show no difference since at full throttle the A/C compressor usually disengages.

The A/C really cost you that much power? Maybe he wasn't stock.....if he's 250hp crank and your 271 crank thats 21hp more. Not sure about aerodynamics or weight but I think you should have had him.......

honestly dude I'm thinking he wasn't stock....theres a few sleeper S2000 up here in Canada. One specifically I can tell you about is the Speed Star S2000. Looks stock right down to the rims, pop the hood, Comptech Supercharger, Engine work. No aftermarket exhaust, he just sounds like he really redlines the car.

Maybe he has NAWWWWS. LMAO.

Anyone care to field this one, I dunno how come he didn't even pull on him.

So far as I know most newer cars declutch the AC compressor when at WOT. So it shouldn't have been an issue. Make sure you weren't playing with a supercharged S2000, as there are a lot of em around now.

yea there is a yellow s2000 in my area that looks bone stock down to the rims also besides the intercooler which is posted a little back so it is sorta hidden in the shadow of the bumper...jerk...

Next time, invite him to the track where you can run WOT for nearly 15 mins and see who comes out on top.

Why would you be surprised that the S2000 could stay with an Evo or even out-accelerate it from a roll?

The S2000 has 240 peak HP, and weighs 2809 lbs, that's 11.70 lbs/HP.

The Evo has 271 peak HP, and weighs 3263 lbs, that's 12.04 lbs/HP.

So the S2000 has a better power-weight ratio, and likely has less drivetrain loss than an AWD car. About the only advantages the Evo has (we're talking a straight-line race here) are a quicker launch and a wider power band -- but is the wider power band enough to make up for the S2000's advantages? Maybe not...

The S2000 has less drivetrain loss and is at a bit of an advantage from a roll. When I say "a bit of an advantage" I don't mean it's going to win, but I do mean "you're playing in its turf".

EDIT: Yeah, pretty much what jbrennen just said.

For me, I definately feel the difference between AC on or off. I'm almost positive that he was stock. He still had stock exhaust and if he had a supercharger he would have killed me.

I look at it this way:
stock S2000 1/4 mile 13.8-14.2
stock EVO 1/4 mile 13.1-13.8

so with AC on it's probably a good race. But I've never tested AC on vs AC off. Maybe it's in my head but I could swear my car feels much faster with AC off.

Yes, the Evo should beat the S2000 in the 1/4 mile. But it's all in the launch. Really. All of the advantage is in the launch.

See this website, which lists a bunch of 0-30 times:

http://www.car-videos.com/performanc...d1=0&Speed2=30

Notably:

2003 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution (USA): 1.47 s
2000 Honda S2000: 2.45 s

(They don't have a more recent S2000, but the S2000 specs haven't changed much since then.)

So the Evo is a full second quicker to 30 mph; beyond that the S2000 will start to catch up, and the difference at the 1/4 mile will be less than a second, assuming both cars are driven well.

Your looking at it the wrong way.

Read the post above. The power to weight ratio is almost the same. Then throw in the drivetrain loss from the AWD....

Your lucky you kept up with him.

And the person who commented about the track.... the S2000 is made for the track. Another close race, no doubt.

I have owned 3 different S2000's so far (one is in my garage being stripped down right now) so I have some idea about S2000's..... anyway.... I think from a roll it is pretty much the better driver that is going to win. The Evo gets the launch in a real drag race, but with proper shifting, the S2000 has better hp to weight ratio (not torque to weight that is for sure), plus the S2000 has lower gearing (6 speeds vs 5), and it does weigh 400 lbs less.....

around a track, in my Evolution I was almost 2 seconds faster than a near stock S2000 that was also in a time trial (experienced drivers only).....but his transponder wasn't working for the last session, so i may have only been 1 second faster....but...still faster..... around the track torque makes more of a difference than in a dragrace. At times there were turns that you needed to be mid range just due to gearing

Yeah, I never really looked at power to weight. I guess from a roll it's going to be close and come down to the driver. I guess I always thought that the S2000's were a bit slower, or maybe that the EVO was much faster. Either way I was dreaming. Man, I need some mods.
