MAF Sensor/HoneyComb Destroyed?? Help!!!
Hi guys i was trying to install my K&N intake system and as i was unbolting the MAF from the stock airbox i accidently hit the screwdriver into the honeyComb and that destroyed it.....Cuz one of the 4 bolts got jammed and wont unscrew so i tried to hold the screw from inside the stock airbox as i tried to unscrew the bold with a rachet and my hand slipped and hit the honeycomb.....i messed the honey comb up. what should i do now....this is my daily driver. No CEL is on the car doesnt stutter or anything but i dont wanna take any chances and destroy anything. I know that now it doesnt know how much air is going in...PLEASE HELP ME!!!! Is there a place where i can buy just the honeycomb cuz the dealership wants 600 dollars for the damn MAF!!!! this sucks...PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Did you just punch through the honeycomb, or did you actually take out the sensor? If you just messed up the honeycomb your fine for right now.....i dont know how long I would drive it like that, thats your call. However if you hit the sensor, a new MAF is needed. I think if you took out the sensor the car would not be reading air flow, and there for would be running like sh*t. I have moved my car into the garage with the MAF not connected....the car is not drivble in that condition.

isnt the k&n intake system frowned upon? which one are you talking about?
k&n filter is cool..
anyhow, sounds like you'll want to check out a junkyard, or the for sale section of this board, ebay or one of the sponsoring vendors on here and see if they can get you a deal...

Get a new MAF sensor, there is a good chance that if you continue to run like that the honeycomb will slowly come apart and be sucked into your engine... not good Not to mention the purpose of the honeycomb is to smooth out the airflow over the MAF so that a more consistent reading can be made, which equates to a more stable A/F ratio.

i finally found one from a dealership for 400 bucks. i didnt really damage the whole MAF just 5-6 holes are damaged outta the whole MAF honeycomb...i will try and post pics of the honeycomb ASAP. Now i got another question... Is the K&N intake really that bad for evos..i have heard some ppl say that their car ran rich with the intake and lost some HP. I feel for you bro. I did the exact same thing. Except I only bent like 2 or 3 of the honeycomb openings. I kind of rigged them back and the car is running fine. But yeah the freggin bolt on the airbox was so tight I couldn't get it off and I had to rip the stock airbox apart. I've been riding for a few weeks with no cel and no problems. I'll repost if I have a problem. Good luck.
