I got 3 factory options for free. Dealer's mistake. I got the lightweight strut bar, aluminum door scuff plates, and a aluminum gauge surround plate which was just laying in the glovebox (I haven't installed the gauge surround yet).

Evidentally my options were installed, but were never added to the sticker. I bought the car, and when I got home I opened the hood just to make sure there was a engine in there, and to my suprise I had lightweight strut bar. Later I noticed the scuff plates, and even later I found the gauge surround in my glovebox.

I didn't think the s60"R"s were actually at the dealership lots yet. You sure you didn't drive the regular S60...that one only has like 230hp and a soft ride?

The R has an adjustable ride that goes from soft to REALLY stiff.

btw, ya i was looking at the "R" thats why i did a test drive to see if i liked the "tamer" version first, but it just didnt feel "fun" enough

I'm really out for a toy that can also be my main car.. seems like this one would fill that role well

You are certainly correct on that. The car is quite fun!

Good luck! I bet Evos are probably easier to get up in Alaska than they are to get elsewhere in the country!

I was actualy thinking of flying down to oregon and buying it there. no sales tax.. save a few grand maybe...(plus visit family ect...)

But who knows, i havnt even stopped by the mistu dealerships up here yet

btw,, these are hard to get a hold of? i thought they had been out for a while?!

I believe that in most states, the sales tax is payable to whatever state you are a resident. So if you bought a car in Oregon, and registered it in Alaska, the Alaska State govt would send you a bill for the taxable amount you owe...right?

Evo's have only been out for about 3 months in the US. Most places that have em in stock are still trying to ask for premium prices. And in a few places where demand isn't high there are some sitting around. But other than that, they are very scarce.

Ahh, only 3 months :/ damn i hate jumping into somethhing so new, and i actualy want to pay "less" than msrp (good luck right? lol)

Well im going to hold off till september then i guess. got a few payments left on my truck, I'll toss some for sale signs on it 'n see what happens

ok then. Besides it's always better to sell your current car to a private party than to a dealership!

But if you wait too long, you might not get one. The Evo is a limited production car. You can't go to a dealership and expect that they will have any on the lot like you could if it was a regular Lancer.

Crapp.. I'll toss the for sale signs up now then and cruze buy a dealership this weekend.. maybe get the ball rolling a bit faster

I can pick one up by the end of july for sure (truck should be paid off, or close)
prices are pretty crazy up here for stuff, its a 1995 chevy extended silverado z71 w/nice canopy carpet kit 'n bed liner.. 58k miles on it & real clean with 1 small hardlynoticable dent and the front bumper is a lil scratched.. but i figure i can get 15k for it (the volvo guy offered me 8 lol)
I'll just get it detailed, toss the signs up 'n cross my figners

damn, i dont want to miss out on an evo.. any clue on how "limited" it is?

Any car not as high-strung as what you're currently driving is an "old man's car" ...

Many years ago I bought my Porsche 928 and was quite thrilled with myself and my new purchase -- quite a step up from a Ford Escort. My boss was driving a Porsche 944 at the time, and continually ragged on me for buying an old man's car. And in comparison to the 944, perhaps it was.

But that Porsche 928, which I still have, and my wife's Volvo S70T5, are great cars. They won't accelerate, turn, or brake like an Evo, but they both have a lot going for them. The 928 is the most stable car at 100+ that I've ever driven, by a wide margin. The Volvo is a sleeper -- it looks like a soccer mom car, but does 0-60 in about 6.4 seconds with an automatic transmission. I've gotten "thumbs up" from Camaro drivers when they've witnessed the cars straight-line acceleration.

28k is much easyer to swallow than the 38k of the volvo though
plus the mitsu lancz line is getting great "longevity" reviews, so i wont have to be in the shop every year (bonus!)


I think for what im looking for ( Toy / commuter car) the evo is a much better buy

My point is just that you should buy the Evo because you like it, or because it's $10K cheaper, not because you think the Volvo is an old man's car.

And as far as longevity... you picked the wrong car manufacturer to compare against, my friend. Volvo is legendary for their cars' longevity.

just saying that the lancer line is supose to hold up well

THe best thing you can do is inform yourself. Buy Corky Bell's book on turbocharging. That is a good, fairly basic read on turbocharged cars (and some trucks). It will help you later on down the road when you start modding (which WILL happen). Also, just start reading SCC, Grassroots Motorsports, and any other magazine that has tech articles/good info. THat way you'll know things like not having to buy an overpriced front strut bar from the silly dealer.
