GSC and Sparco make harness bars. I think you can buy attachments that allow you mount a camera. Thank said, I'm sure people will say not to buy a harness bar. Look in the motorsports section and you'll understand why.

Yup i read all about why not to get them, but i plan on doing a roll cage also as this will be a full out streetable drag car

Its just the harness bar is coming first in this case..

Now with the GSC are there any ones that come with teh camera mount attachment? Same with sparco?

AND im wondering which most people go with, for reliablity and everything, Also im still going to be using my back seats

Btw its That* said, not thank said haha,

Thanks!

It won't be streetable once it has a cage. You aren't supposed to drive a caged car without a helmet, and you obviously can't drive in public with a helmet.

The harness bar and harness have no use except for when autocrossing, so unless you suddenly plan to start autocrossing, then you have no use for them - at least no use that is considered safe. The harnesses should not be used until you have the cage, but then the car will become a track car only.

There's no reliability to worry about when getting a harness bar. It's just a bar that you bolt in and take out. Remember that you will never use the backseat while the harness bar is installed.

K im confused as to how come you cant daily drive a car with a cage?

Also thousand of people drive cars, including evos with harness bars, without a problem? i know if you roll and flip its going to basically raise your body upwards therefore crushing your head lol. but still id ont see the big deal.

And how come you cant use the backseat with a harness bar? isnt that what the backseatbelts are for? so ppl in the back dont hit there head in the case of a crash lol.

Idk

Driving a GT35R'd Evo on the street with a harness bar + harness and people in the back seat...or driving a GT35R'd Evo with a cage and harness and no helmet on the street. Neither of those falls under the category of "careful." Also, being "careful" doesn't mean you're a good driver, nor does it protect you from other stupid drivers. It's kinda hard to be "careful" in a car like that, too, unless you never go WOT, which would then be a complete waste of all that money.

Have you ever seen any slow motion video of an accident? Do you see how the crash dummies go forwards until they hit the airbag? Imagine someones face 2 feet away from your harness bar in the back seat and you get rear ended (not your fault since your a careful driver). They're face goes straight into the harness bar thanks to no airbag and they will probably die. Just because you wanted some bling takata harnesses in your car. Come on man, unless your auto'xing leave the harness bar and harnesses out of the car.

Ok i can see where your coming from with this, and yeah i probably wouldnt have anyone in the backseats with the harness bar.

But still i havent gotten one straight answer as to my original question. Evom is going to crap, no one knows how the hell to answer a straight question and everyone always has to challenge everything.

To answer your question, no - no one makes a harness bar with a camera mount built in. You buy the bar and mount separate. As far as bars go, the only difference between the sparco bar and GSC bar (if it is still being made) is finish. The sparco one is smooth grey powdercoat, the GSC one is black krinkle fininsh powdercoat. IMHO the GSC one looks the best by far with the EVO interior.

As far as mounts go, this is what everyone uses with a roll cage or harness bar:

This thing will hold even a heavy larger video camera rock solid.

BTW, I have a GSC harness bar and this same camera mount for sale. PM me if interested or for pics.

Good luck with your build!

glad to see you take your friends' lives and safey so seriously... aside from that, if you're planning to get a roll cage anyway, why not skip the harness bar, and save some money? btw, full out streetable and roll cage really do not go together, maybe a 4 pt roll bar? Of course, you probably don't want your friends to sit in the back with that either... probably.

This is good info and I didn't even have to read in the motorsport section. I use my backseats but I also would like to go autocrossing. Is there a way to mount harnesses without harness bar or rollcage? I've seen a car where they mounted the harness to the top of the car( headliner area). How bout instead of having the harness bar mounted to behind the seats, why not swing it up towards close to the healiner?

It is very easy to mount a harness without a bar. The most common spot is the lower rear seatbelt mounting points. You take the rear seatbottom out, run the harnesses and bolt them in where the stock belts (about a 45* angle down from the shoulder holes in the front seat) and then put the rear seat base back in. You can get a Schroth harness with a buckle in that rear section so when you have to use the back seat you just unbuckle it and let the straps hang down. Hard to visualize without seeing it in person.

The other place to mount it would be to the rear seat upper seat belt mounts in the rear deck. The harness shoulder straps would go straigh back instead of angling down. You would have to remove the rear seat belts, though. . .

There are ways, like ^ mentioned. There are constraints on how you should mount your harnesses, Schroth's site iirc has some really good info on why or why not you should mount a harness a certain way, so I suggest you check them out. If you are looking to stay firmly planted in your seat during autoX, a good bucket seat will out do a harness any day, without the pain of thinking about proper mounting, backseat usage, etc. And a good bucket seat is much more comfortable than people think.
