Is it possible for an Evo to appreciate in value?
My brother was just hired as the internet sales manager at a Toyota dealership. He e-mailed me a few days ago informing me that they have a 1998 Toyota Supra twin turbo for sale. It is in showroom condition with very few miles. Asking price? $55,491. My question is this. If someone were to buy a brand new Evo IX today and keep it covered in their garage for the next 10 years, what would happen to its value? That Supra is 10 years old and has actually appreciated. Might this happen with a mint-condition Evo if it was never driven and kept 100% stock? Or are there just too many of them on the road for that to ever happen?

If I were to bet on it I would say that the current Evo's will not appreciate in value. What has happened with the Supra is kind of unique, because most every car will only go down in value. I think that there are only two ways that the current Evo's will go up in value:
1. If the Evo were to be discontinued – This would drive the price up in much the same way as the Supra.
2. If you hold on to the car for a while and it becomes something like a collector item.
I personally think that #2 is the most likely means of appreciation, not that I think it will really happen. The most likely event overall for the current Evo’s, is that it will hold its value. This is what has happened for the most part with the older Evo’s. For example; just look and see if you can find an Evo VI for sale.

no... there were too many evos made and the people who want to buy them won't pay a marked up price for the most part. (they'll go to subaru etc)
an example of a similar car that will and is doing well is the VW R32... for something that's really not so great the low number is making them sell for a lot more then they should be.

The answer is NO.
Why?
There are too many Evo's that were imported into the US. If you look at the production numbers of the twin turbo Supra's, and the FD RX-7 (two vehicles that are currently appreciating in value) their production numbers are tiny compared to the large scale production of the Evo. Its all just statistics. If there are thousands and thousands of Evo's everywhere, the the supply will be great enough to provide for the demand, and the price will not increase. Basic economics.
SickSilverNLow, that is a great ***-shot you got there. Caught myself drooling!

Then agian with every one crashing the evo it could happen. I bought my first evo for 23k and sold it for $26500.00 My car with 8k miles on it is still worth "retail" more than I paid for it. I think the evo 9's will because they only made them for a year and half...

Sounds good to me! The new Evo X looks different. Everybody I spoke to say the looks is nice only.

Its possible but not probably. Best chance is for a IX, and if it was in super mint condition and properly maintained for all of that time.... sure its possible. Its still not likely though.
