Thumbs up Turbochargers.com...

Well, first of all sorry this post has been put off for a while, just haven't had time to write it. In early June I went back to my home town of Houston to visit some friends and have some fun. The day before I left for my trip I noticed a post from Chris Wertz from Turbochargers.com talking about their need for a donor car for a turbo hybrid they were designing, so I jotted down their phone number. Well one of the last days I was in Houston I decided to see if they were open, it was a sunday of all days, and lo and behold they were having a dyno meet, talk about good timing huh.

Tommy told me to come on over, they were barbequeing to top it all off. I received a warm welcome from all their crew and some of their customer/friends. These guys have one goal, well maybe two, getting you out of their shop for the best bang for your dollar and enjoying themselves while doing it, in a good way. At times I was trully curious whether they were having more fun tuning my car than I was watching the dyno numbers get higher and higher. First got on the dyno with a max hp of 237.9 and max torque of 223.4, when I left I was at a max hp of 268.8 and max torque of 259.8.

Now let me go ahead and state that I have no means or current desire, yet to make my car anywhere close to the level that guys like Big Al have, so I'm doing it modestly and in steps like the majority of us guys on this forum, no offense Al, mad respect, but just a milder path. The car now runs like a scalded *** baboon, translation, hella fast, totally different beast in every good way imagineable. Proportionally better gas mileage, power band "as smooth as a babies ***", quoting Chris's exact words. Car really feels like it's in it's element now.

Now here are some of the details, I went in with the BR airfilter, BR mas air pipe, Apexi S-AFC with BR settings, Greddy electronic boost gauge, HyperGround earthing system, and stock exhaust. All I left with was the retune and MBC. Will be putting my RMR exhaust on next week and shortly after that going back to Turbochargers for a slight retune, I forsee a good 20 hp increase but doubt I'll get to 300, my current goal, but who knows, a little wishful thinking might work .

Anyways this was by far, and I've dealt with a few shops in my past when working on another vehicle, the best experience I have ever had with a tuning shop. Also, they guarantee to beat anyones prices on turbos. *Just talked to them today and Tommy asked me to tell all of you that the hybrid turbo for the Evo is done, I will include a pic. Man if I had the cash right now I'd be all over it, don't quote me on this but they were guesstimating a price tag of about $600 to $700 on it, and are very excited about it.

Providing a bit of background on the guys, you wouldn't think I would just let anyone work on my Evolution do you, they are the guys who own and built the Eclipse that beat the MTI Trans Am in that video floating around. That is one mean sounding Eclipse in person, they were letting the rings set in the new engine while I was there. They are the guys who do the, suck your puppy off the street and mulch his ***, Frankenstein 7 turbo. To top it off, a little birdy told me that they are where Buschur Racing goes for their turbos, so how ya gonna beat that for being qualified?

So for any of you guys in Houston looking for a very reasonably priced awd dyno, check these guys out, by the way they use a Dyno-Jet pointed to a good exit path for worse case scenarios. Chris is an artist with that thing. Between he and Matt those guys could probably do just about anything under the hood of a car with absolutely zero space to work in, impressive team. And Tommy just knows his **** about tubos, that man seriously enjoys what he does for a living. Their shop had so many beautiful goodies in it I was drooling. They can pretty much get anything you want. If I could I would be first in line for their hybrid turbo, but I know someone will beat me to it, that should be one happy bastard. Here's some info on how to contact the shop (713)681-1111, ask for Tommy Mabry or Chris Wertz. Email turbo@turbochargers.com

ok for anybody who hasn't checked out the website yet here's what the guys at tubochargers.com have to say about the hybrid

Brand new upgrade.
$825.00 w/ good core (core cost $800.00). New outright w/ no core $1625.00
50% bigger compressor wheel, heavy duty thrust bearing,
cut contour of compressor housing to accommodate larger compressor wheel.
there's the just of what needs to be said.

Still no power yield specified? It'd be nice to know what you're buying (hp / torque wise) for that $800.

Regards,
Cris

Sounds priced a bit steep then... I need to remember what the name of the place in Waco, TX is... Majestic Turbo maybe? Might be interesting.
