aftermarket camgears
#20
the whole point of cam gear is so you can set up the cam timing to the optimium, not how it comes form the factory! also stock stuff can be out. if you get you cams set up properly (not using the markings as they can REALLY put your cams out) then you know your cam timing will be spot on. also you might get more power by swinging the cams around a little, or more torque or quicker spool.
if you just stick in a nice set of exspencive cams then how do you get the best out of them if you dont adjust the cam timing???
sorry to be an **** about it but it just winds me up a bit.
Chris.

question could i put an hks timing belt on stock camgears?
and chris what do you mean "swinging around the cams"
btw i already have hks272s and i think my timing might be off a tooth, and thinking i would dyno tune this time around at this new place..

i dont have cam gears with my hks sticks...car runs great still pulls hard..lol i love the way it pulls in fifth on the freeway. you dont need gears until you really wanna fine tune your powerband. if anything id say youd get 10 maybe 15 more hp with gears. if your cars a dd and you track it every once in awhile youll be fine with stock gears

sorry mate i didn't exsplain to well. lol
when you are setting up high performance engines (like track cars and stuff) you want the best out the engines. on a turbo car this is just the same, as just as important.
formthe factory the Evo will not be set up to make max power. there are loads of factors that Mitsubshi will have to contend with and will have to take short cuts or sacrifice some things for others. this means that comething like the cam timing might not be the best...for power!
with a set of adjustable cam pullies your tuner (be it yourself or a shop) can adjust the cma timing to get the best results. for a turbo engine this offten means removing all the overlap (when both the inlet and exhaust valves are open together: this bleeds boost out into the exhaust rather than filling the cylinders). basically you are just maximising the tuning but these little thing can all help and often not only benifit power.
hope this exsplains why.
