Look at like this, this could be true. "Battle of Muscle Cars" has been around for years, from the Chevy Corvette to Ford Mustang. The next generation is coming up and Imports are in. Now "Battle of Imports" are catching on in America, so why not a Evo 9 with 350 hp. All I can say is I'm glad that Mitsubishi and Subaru see what America wants. They can not go wrong.

Evo 9 Doubt It

Mitsubishi has a lot more to worry about than the STI/EVO thing right now. They are in the midst of a pretty serious crisis and are now realizing there business plan over the last 3 years has pretty much back fired and turned into a big problem for the brand. Getting young people easy credit and deferred payments has caused major problems and actually, right now Mitsu is going to attempt to revamp it's image to be more "adult". I don't thing a 35K EVO 9 pocket rocket is a part of the turn around strategy. They would need to bring back a vehicle like the 3000GT or a touring coupe of some kind perhaps to go after the adult crowd again. Anyway, the EVO 9 rumers are very premature and don't make any sense what so ever if you know what is going on internally within the company. By the way, I gave yet to read an article that placed the STI above the EVO 8... don't see any pressure on Mitsu at all to change a thing! I wouldn't

Ah, what a great topic... a 2.4 liter motor

I remember a certain person that was very interested in this idea quite a ways back, but the consensus of the board was negative toward it at the same time touting "4g63 for life" tatoos on their arms (Many of whom never even owned a 4g63 in their life!!!)

Oh ya, that pro 2.4 liter person was me... whether or not the 2.4 comes out in an EVO or a Colt in the near or far off future, more discplacement is better and I want it!!

Had I not been in grad school at the time, I would have probably opted for a 2.3 or 2.4 liter build in my DSM vs just the stock 2.0 4g63 rebuild my funds allowed me to do

The bottom line is, I don't think negative comments/posts toward talking about 2.4/bigger discplacement motors are warranted... why would anyone NOT want more power, quicker spool, and more potential??? (Certerus Perabus... for those that want to quibble and nit pick!)

So far? Visual changes, slight bumps in power/torque, yet more updates to the ayc/acd systems. They wouldn't move to a 2.4 in Japan, so if that did happen, it's likely to be an america-only engine. Ralliart is concentrated on the new WRC Evo's, so I doubt they'd be shoveling major cash at a whole new hi-po motor right now, especially since the Evo isn't doing that bad as it is.

Cheers,

Paul Hansen

Another point,Its called the evolution for a reason each car evolves and becomes better than the last, just like mitsu has said there will be a rall art for every model, bad press.Nissan went trough the same thing, but came out of it.Not only will mitsu survive but also kick ***!

the last thing mitsu needs is another 3000gt,no they need more performance and high performance sedans like the evolution, and the galant vr4.I understand why mits did not want to bring over the evo now, americans do not aprecate what that car represents, not just races but technology and its heritage.the original evo only had a 1.8l but evolved, now it will be a 2.4l,next maybe a v6 who knows, just sit back and enjoy the ride!

Why would it be such a big deal for Mitsu to put a 4g64 into their next generation of Evos? If DSM enthusiasts are using a 2.4L shortblocks with DOHC 4g63 cylinder heads, then I'm sure it's occured to someone at Mitsu that the combination could work. It would be a way for them to counter Subaru's apparent "advantage" they have (on paper) in displacement, since people in this country, namely the general public, automatically think that a bigger engine is better than a smaller one. If it helps sell more Evos and makes Mitsu more money, then I say let them do it and just enjoy your 4g63 powered Evo if that's what you're into.

i mean really, just because subi comes out with a 2.5 lt? big deal...the 4g63 fq300 in uk has 300/300 just a little ECM programming should be able to beat the **** out of it without increasing the size of the engine...

don't you all remember the "rumor" of the "ralliart chip" that was gonna do that, bring us to 315/315 because of the sti....

I thought I read somewhere before where said that the the US Evo would evolve differently than the rest of the worlds Evos which makes this 2.4l rumor a little more believable. Unfortunately displacement does not equal the success or survival of the Evo in the US. I see a few people speaking of the Mustang/Camaro/Firebird battles but if we look at what is left it is the 4.6l and not the 5.7l (at least for this last generation). Beyond all that I personally want what they have in Japan for a change. I can appreciate losing the AYC and ACD for the purpose of hitting a specific price point and improving reliability but can we at least have the same engine as the others. The Evo has done great against the more powerful STI in most if not all reviews and it makes no sense for them to fix what isn't broke. OK I'm done whining now.......

That's exactly what i'm saying..as soon as the Evo 8 hit the streets, so many shops and tuners jumped on the car to tune the 4g63! Only weeks was it before so many parts came out as many of these shops, tuners, had previous evo's which they have knowlage of the engine! Here than come Subaru, the try and impress the crowd with a 2.5L, brand new engine, imo alot more tuners would've gone after that car if it had the J-Spec engine in there... i mean know the car is running detenation problems, people are seeing some problems in the car! Mitsu has this engine, the 4g63, which has been around for 10 years, and they have made it more reliable than ever, if you ask me! I doubt they would want to ruin that, not mention, aftermarket imo would go down for the car compared to keeping it same as JDM!!! IDK, i don't think Mitsu will do that and as one person said.. Mitsu is kind of in a financial situation, i doubt they would be spending money liek this on the production of a brand new Evo! If they do, Good luck to them, but i'd rather have the Evo 8 with the 4G63 Engine..
