dealer key programming
Just curious what the Dealer has to do to program a key if you only have 1 working key. How much do you think they charge if you bring in your own non working key and is this even covered by warranty?

key already opens door, just can't start the car engine cuts off after a second. It is a transponder key. My main key still works so its not a major deal, never really used the 2nd key. But I'm thinking about installing an alarm/starter/turbotimer and I need it for the transponder bypass.

You can disable the immobilizer in the ECU. Normally I would say that's a bad idea, but if you're going to have a second key in the car with the transponder anyway, this should save you the trouble.

I think to program it ( i just did the one for my caddy) you stick the first key (the one that works) into the igntion and start the car. Pull it out and within ten seconds insert the new key and start the car. Let it run for about a 30 sec to a min. That should program it.
I cant quite remember if the procedure for the evo is the same..it has been too long and I run a stand-alone (well ran a stand alone when the car was running)
Might try a search on key programming. I am sure the info is easily available, if not on this site, google it.

thanks how long does it take to program it with the MUT2? i take it we cant just flash it on with our tractrix cable?
Just called the Dealer keys are not covered on warranty since they are considered an accessory and they're charging me 42 bucks just to program 1 key.
Kinda sucks.
