3500 evo's?-where did you here that?
i heard 3500 but i'm not sure
that's not quite right, the amt has not yet been determined, it has most to do with the type of emmission system the car will have . You can expect a minimum US production of 4000 evo's. If the other emmisions works out they can import even more- but believe me there will not be a surpluss of evos - if you can buy one at MSRP you did well.

I heard the number 3500 from 3 different dealers that I talked to. Each dealer claimed it was announced to them at the 2003 Eclipse launch party. If all three are claiming the same number it seemed reasonable to me that could be the information passed on to them.

We all know and hope things could change from then till now. 4000 units is the minimum, the question is what will it really be: 5000? 7000?
I think it backwards if there is somewhere around 680 Mits dealers in the US of A and the smaller dealers will only sell 4-6 of these nitch cars. the bigger dealers sell max 20? for the first year where is the production number -probably around 6000-7000 units. Still creating a demand for year 2 and 3.

Prior to 2002 the most Evos ever produced WORLDWIDE in a single year was 7,000. In 2002 they upped it to 10,000 total, with about 7,000 of them staying in Japan. The rest of the world got the other 3,000 or so.
So, unless they dramatically increase production I think it's unrealistic to expect anything like 7,000 Evos in the U.S. next year. If I had to guess I'd say we'll get 2,000, maybe 3,000 if we're lucky.
I think it would fit in with Mitsu's marketing strategy to keep the Evos rare and desireable. Daimler/Chrysler is an owner of Mitsu and I think the Evo will be to Mitsu what the Viper is to Dodge. An image enhancer that helps them sell more of the rest of their line of cars, not a money maker in and of itself.

I'd also take it for granted that there are more cars on the roads in the US than any other country, and that it wouldn't be a problem to sell any reasonable number of a limited production of Evos. Though I could be wrong.
