dude dont use those universal o2, get an oem trust me. seem like the o2 is getting false reading and adjusting your a/f mixture according to the "universal" o2 sensor. More than likely its detecting a lean condition and dump more fuel.

This can be cause by:

exhaust leak BEFORE upsteam O2 sensor; damaged wiring between O2 and ecu; bad sensor.

That was good of dapper dan to check the o2 because running rich @ idle besides blowing off a charge pipe is a def sign that the upstream o2 is bad.

Let me guess your code p0171 lean system

I guess I been there before

Initial startup is open loop for a predetermined amount of time programmed in to the ecu. The time spent in open loop is based on engine temp. The colder the engine is the longer the ecu stays in open loop. During open loop the O2 signal is ignored and all fueling is basedoff the ecu's "base map". Once closed-loop operation is entered the based map calibrations are altered based on the voltage from the O2.

When the car is first turned on it will run great off the base map. Once it starts reading the F'ed up "FALSE LEAN" O2 voltage, it will drive the A/R rich.

Ohm out the O2 signal and refference voltage wire from the O2 connector to the ECU connector. If either is shorted to ground, fix it. The reference voltage should be about 2.5 volts with the key on, engine off.

If thats all good replace the sensor

ive heard of a bunch of people running this 02 sensor and it runs the same even with the 02 sensor unplugged so im sure the problem is the sensor......i just need to find someone that i can swap out with to be sure before i dish out 220 bucks for an oem one......

im gonna mess with it more in the morning......

Hey bro try this its an easy error. Since there is 2 white wires you cant just hook them up together, you have to make sure your connectig the right ones together. One white wire is a Upper heater wire and the other is the lower. Cut the two wires and swap them around see if that helps. Black is still going to black and gray (some of them are blue) still goes to gray (thats your o2 sensor signal wire black is ground. Hope that helps

did you reset your ecu after the swap, if you did try to switch with someone with an OEM 02 sensor.

i took my car up to my work today and ran a diagnostics check on it and it said it weas the front o2 sensor (but i just put in a new uiniversal bosch) which i heard works fine in our car.......

so is there anything else that could make my car throw an 02 code?

might just have to get a new oem 02 sensor

A lot of aftermarket 02 sensors don't work correctly. Try an OEM one?
Also, your battery voltage can affect your AFRs because of your injector latency settings. Injector latency is based on voltage and if your battery is not putting out what it should, your ecu may be using latency settings that it normally doesn't use.

The battery is pretty obvious. If you find yourself jumping the car to start it, it's very clear. Otherwise, it shouldn't cause this much of an issue.
