help please timing belt tool broken
#3
Same thing happened to me. I towed it to a guy in town. He used a Dremel to saw it in half and then knock it loose with a hammer and long screwdriver. I think he had to remove quite a bit to get to it, but he reached it from the underside of the car.

Honestly, what about an easy out? I really don't know much about the timing belt tool, but it's just a special threaded rod, right? You put your socket and ratchet on the end of it right? Drill the broken part and use an easy out.
Where did it break off? Towards the bottom or top?
Or just follow the cam how-to that does not require the use of the timing belt tool. That may give you some insight.

I had this happen to me one time, and I will tell you why/how it happened.
When you tightened down the tool, you compressed the tensioner, and then turned it another turn like you were tighting a bolt. This smashes/mushrooms the end of the bolt and messes up the threads.
When you go to remove it, the boogered threads will not thread out and you have it stuck in there. I'm not gonna lie its quite a ***** to fix, as you damn near have to remove the mount bracket, which is quite buried.
you will have to get to the backside of the stud and thread it on through, or cut the end of it off and pull it out.
Good luck in whichever you decide
