Want a used EVO, what 2 check?

-Dyno
-compression check
-leakdown test
-oil pressure check
-send out oil sample from tranny & diff for analysis

This would be performed by a reputable tuner shop...anything else I should have them check to ensure the used EVO is in good working order?

look at the calipers to see if they are still red/white. If they have been used hard they will turn brown.

When you say the calipers would turn brown, do you mean from brake dust? I wouldn't think the existence of brake dust would mean u beat on your car (perhaps didn't clean it though haha), but perhaps checking rotor thickness would be beneficial?

it would be a used evo from a dealership that has a relationship with the tuner, that's how I would be allowed to dyno the car and really look at it. And yes I, the buyer, would incur the testing costs.

take a look generally under the hood, check for integrety of the bolts, see if anything has been tampered with, but again that wouldn't mean the car is bad persay....

but if the shpo is willing to dyno and compression andboost leak test, deifnately go ahead and do that, theres nothing wrong with a littl einsurance.

No they would actually turn purple-ish color. The actual caliper will, so you won't be able to clean it off. That happens when you track the car. Checking for rotor thickness will tell you nothing, if the car was track you will be able to see right away

yes i agree alot.... browned calipers mean its been tracked. doesnt mean the car shouldnt be bought but be aware of such hints. if lowering springs are tein-S, u should be aware those stock shocks dont have much live left most likely. fluid sampling is overkill but compression test is a great idea. also if ur on stock clutch, it most likely doesnt have much life left either. take note if Cf wing clear coat is peeling.

I would try to check the history of the tires, clutch, etc.
For instance, a car with 10k miles which used 3 sets of tires is a no-no for me.
Same for the clutch, aftermarket clutch because stock is gone before 20k miles is a no-no.

I'm talking about a stock or near stock evo

+ I would say compare many cars, feel the difference. You'll see which one looks better...
