Most new cars these days are clean enough that there is no need for a california model. This include the evo.

When it comes to parts, the state is very strict. If it does not have a 50 state leagal CARB #, it is not allowed. Even if it does you may end up at the smog rep getting things signed off frequently.

I know people getting tickets for things like fuel pressure regulators. Sucks.

One of my buddies is a smog guy, so he has to know all these laws.

Here what's happen when state is managed by an actor....
The start of a lot of movies!!!
Push the right pedal and do not be worried.
Regarding mod's declaration, I dont know how they can control but if it's true, it's seams a little exagerated!
Please misters politics, first sign Kyoto and then take care of our cars!

No wonder why I barely see highly modified street Evos in California. Cant believe they are that strict.

I'm referring to pump gas. We can use higher octane unleaded race gas as long as the gas is legal in California.

For example:

MS109E is designed for the same applications as Motorsport 109, offering the same substantial power increases and protection against detonation. Oxygenated with ethanol, MS109E can be used in all 50 states, including those that restrict the use of MTBE in fuels.

But I guess you have to buy this from a local motorsports shop right? Or is it available in some gas stations?

Yah CA is a ***** for EVERYTHING. Believe it or not... You can even get flagged for having a cold air intake... And as for Catalytic converters... I'm sure that the Cali Evo's have diff. ones than the other states... There are the normal cats, and CA-Certified cats. So maybe thats the only difference with the Cali Evos and other state evos. We also have the ****ty gasoline. It's hard to find modded cars here in CA because everything is strict. people that have big modded cars are at huge risks. (Some cars being crushed)

How is the octane rating measured where you live (RON, MON, R+M/2). Octane number at the pump could be higher or lower depending on which rating system countries use. I think common misconception is that other countries provide higher octane at the pump, but actually it just a difference in how they measure their octane number.

Yes, you have to buy it from a local VP distribution center. No, these are not available at gas stations.

OT: Here are the fuels we get. These are basically the top of the line fuels. Both are pump gas fuels

Shell V-power (95 OCtane)

Petron Blaze (96 Octane)

What is the rating in Europe and in Japan?

There is a lot of bad information on this thread, I rather keep my .02 cents to myself and just warn people that everything they read, they should take it with a grain of salt!
