first start after cam install

first start after cam install

i just installed hks 280s and the timing looked on so i tried to start it and it turned over almost started and backfired.

should i try to start it again or is the timing off

i need some tips on what to do next

better recheck everything are the timing marks ok?

Make sure the timing is lined up correctly....
then try again....

NO, you need to check all your timing marks like ^^ he said. You might have jumped a tooth if you didnt turn the engine over by hand a few times before trying to start it. You also might have installed the cam position sensor backwards. Where are you located?

california should i line everything back to tdc and try again

would the sensor being backwards cause this.

would it matter if my gas light is on and im on a slope.

No, the gas light should not matter but i would suggest getting gas... haha. You don't want to starve the car of course.

I would recheck all the timing marks and make sure you didnt jump a tooth or a few. Yes the cam sensor can cause problems because it thinks the exhaust came is in a different position.

ok i put it back to tdc and tried to start it would go.

now im going to do the cam sensor let you know results

Make sure the sensor is in properly. Also recheck timing marks. Thats all you can do. Did you bleed the lifters? You may have to do the lash adjuster procedure for a few minutes after the car warms up to get rid of the clicking noise as well. Id check the cam sensor first. When at TDC the smaller vein will be to the upper left, and the larger one will sit from 3 oclock to 6 oclock like this )
