I know for a fact that the STi 6-speed can easily handle upwards of 550whp heavily abused on street and drag strip. My buddy actually bent his shift knob from shifting so hard. The STi has an extremely stout transmission. Their 5-speed on the other hand....

ya, i had an sti (06)before i got my evo, both the cars had stick 2nd gears, as far as shifting, the evo feels way better. I have heard from everyone that the subys tranny is stronger though.

The sub tranny can definately hold up to more abuse from an idiot driver but as far as strength goes they're the same.
