Can I install my fuel pump with a full tank of gas?

Hi All, to those who installed fuel pumps on their car, does the fuel tank needs to be close to empty?

I just filled up my tank last night and Im planning to do my fuel pump install soon. I dont drive that much so I doubt Ill be emptying it out anytime before the install.

Would there be any issue installing the fuel pump with a full tank of gas?

Thanks in advance

If you were in Florida, I would let you syphon the gas into my tank.

mine was done with less than 1/4th tank and the gas fumes were still innudating. It's best to do this when the fuel light comes on. Be sure to open all the doors while you are installing.

If you don't want to wait, you can just pull your return line off your FPR, throw a hose on there and drain into a gas can.

Whether or not theres gas in the tank or not will not make it any harder or easier the fumes will be there no matter what. I did mine on 3/4 full tank.

I would rather change it with a full tank than with a low tank. Just have a clean towel and a weight ready to block the tank opening when you pull the assembly.

If you do it without the fuel light on you are in trouble, because that means you didn't disconnect the power source.

But really, it isn't that bad either way. Just have some towels ready, one to throw over and keep gas from leaking all over the top of the fuel tank when you pull the fuel pump assembly and one to put where you are going to be setting it down to put the new pump in. Whatever way you do it you are probably going to spill some gas.

I would recommend at max 3/4 tank. 1/2 perferred if you don't want the tank too low. You will spill about 3-4 gallons fuel if its topped off. I know from experience. I topped mine off and my fuel pump decided to call it quits at the pump. Sucked!!
