You gotta factor the cost of maintenance and such - maybe you have, but it seems like you really cant afford to get a car that will cost a fortune in tires and routine maintenance. Give yourself some room for upgrades and repairs as you'll undoubtedly need it.
I'm not saying that I'm loaded so I have an evo, but I know what it costs to race it. I really think that you are gonna be in a much better financial situation if buy a cheaper RWD car and get that going.

Get a S2k. Those bad boys are RWD and they would be pretty fun to work on.

I'd look into an ls1 '04 gto (lot's of low end torque) or a 350z for that money. The s2000 is a nice car but you'd probably be disappointed in the power. (especially low end). The evo does not sound like the right car for you and importing a car that never passed crash and smog tests in the US (evo 6 or 7)... forget it. You might be able to afford the car but paying to have all the other paperwork done to make it legal costs thousands of dollars (even then it's probably still gonna be in the gray are legally).

if you have 18k I'd move out from your parents house and do what you want with your life, if you buy and evo and live with your parents you'll be living there for a while. I'm just assuming you live with them if not then disregaurd that.
Get the 240 and drift the **** out of it. SR-20 swap!

don't get a rx8... and don't get a evo... cause it is hard to get one for that price... even a bad one... sine all ur gonna be doing is drifting... you're gonna be breakin the car anyway... explain that to your parents... and im pretty sure they'll let you get a 240... take the rest of the 16k... go get ur self a rb... not a sr20... and go nut's...
