What is the sensor on the back of the oil filter housing for? I had to put thread sealer on it before i put the motor in because a few threads where striped.

I don't see how that would throw oil all over your timing belt.

That would be the relief plug, and would cause massive oil leakage if not sealed properly. Item #10?

sorry, didn't see that you have oil being flung around. use some oil leak dye and a uv light after a good cleaning and a short drive.

You do have a mivec engine in your evo viii correct?

I remember reading a thread in which someone asked if you could use an evo ix block and a evo viii head...and there was never a definite answer BUT

one of the things that were mentioned to be different in the blocks is the fact that there is a galley or some type of opening on the block somewhere that the mivec motor has that the viii did not (I believe it was on the black passenger side of the block)...it may be a long shot but compare diagrams of both motor and make sure you have that opening plugged

worth a try...

I'd check behind the valve cover. On most dsm's thats usually where most of the oil leaks come from.

lol now you guys arent reading the previous posts lol, its not leaking from anything on the head. if it is, its completely clearing the head/gears and all cause there is no oil on them.

If you didnt tighten down your t-belt tensioner all the way oil will leak out of there. You will get it on your belt (likely) and you will see it dripping from the lower timing belt cover and it will go all over the oil pan etc etc etc. Other than that. Cam seals, Front main seal.

I keep coming back to the cam seals to but if you dont see oil behind the gears with the cover off its likely not coming from there.

I doubt you have a bad main seal on a almost new IX motor unless it was damaged in transport.

Id retrace the whole timing belt job step by step and you should find it. Definately get yourselr some oild dye. That stuff works great

If you have Napas in TX I'd give them a try. The only auto store that I've been to that carries oil dye.
