Roadtrip!!

Hey guys long time lurker first time poster. I'm in the market for an evolution so my question comes from the absolute love of driving. Have any of you owners taken your car on a road trip and i dont mean like 3000 miles(but if you have, comment) i mean like 1200? I am considering the evolution because of the car that it is but it will be my daily driver for a few years and I would like a car that can handle(pretty stock) long trips a couple times a year. Gimme some of your thoughts and experiences, and yes i have thought about the gas mileage

I've done a few small road trips from florida to north carolina. Despite the stiff suspension the car rides pretty smoothly. The seats are actually very comfortable (front and rear) but the only big downer is that the Evos don't have cruise control. You'll definitely miss it on long road trips.

I have an 03 with about 102,000 on the clock. I have made about 15 round trips between Phila area and Palm Beach FLA. The trips have been great only drawback is no cruise control. I find the seats comfortable for a long ride however I'm not a large person maybe that's why. The ride definitely is firm.

It sounds like a good idea, but in reality it's not. Driving the smooth riding minivan with full reclinable seats is treasured on long boring drives. You never get the urge to floor it, or go carve a corner, it's smooth and great for relaxing which long road trips should be. The benefit of this besides the relaxation is you never have to worry about getting a ticket.

The EVO is nervous and not smooth or relaxing. You can't, at least I can't, fall asleep in it, it's loud and stiff no space. You always have the urge to go fast, carve a corner, or play tag with the sports car to your left/right. You are always tempted to do things that will require you to pay a big fine. Don't get me wrong it's fun to do those things, but if we're talking 10-12hrs gimme the minivan.

Can the EVO do it, yes. I went to Orland twice, Austin once, in the last year in the EVO over 900 miles to Orland over 650 to Austin.

Went from San Diego to my home in Utah a week ago. I thought it was just fine. Seats and ride are a bit stiff like others have said but it keeps you awake. Cruised at 100 smoothly between baker and vegas.

I will say that it is not that great not that bad kinda down the middle , you will be somewhat stiff at roads end.

With that being said if you are gonna let the fact that the evo might not be the best road trip car then you are looking at the car all wrong. It WILL reward you in so many other areas of driving that you will quickly forget all about that s h i t t y a s s drive to where ever.

I recently took a 12 hour road trip and overall it was not a bad experience. Big trunk, 5 seats and passing power to spare. I didnt find the ride bad at all, butt didnt hurt and the passengers didnt complain either.

Everyone complains who drives in my car for long periods of time. The backseats are comfortable but the front seats are not.

not a good road trip car but for a few trips a yr I wouldn't let that stop me. For me personally: the seats don't have anywhere near enough lower back support for my tastes, seats are tight on the lats- I know they're supposed to be and I'm not fat, seats cut off circulation in the legs because of the high front of the bottom cushion, no cruise control and the gas pedal is too close (again I know it's for heal/toe but it cramps my legs, I40 thru Oklahoma is nothing but expansion joints and ruts and will absolutely be torture and rattle your teeth out. This is the only car I've taken a trip in and not been able to run out the gas before needing to stop- I had to stop every ~2 hrs for a stretch.
