Quieter exhaust with JDM bumper
OK, just something I found very cool this past week.
About two weeks ago I installed my Tanabe 2.75" downpipe, 3" random flow cat, and Greddy Ti-C exhaust (with the inlet restriction removed) and from the moment I drove it, I HATED IT!!! it was loud and at about 3.5K the droneing sound was horrid. I have my entire trunk sound deadened, and still, I wanted to bash my brains out because the resonance was so bad. I was pissed that I spent all this money to free up my exhaust, now I have to install the sound baffle supplied to quiet it down (and lose all the flow I spent so much money to obtain)
However last monday, I installed my JDM bumper, with the JDM bumper, the Ti-C extends past the bumper by a few inches, and as soon as I did that, the resonance disapeared! Today I did a few more little sound deadening tricks, and the car sounds quieter than stock!
I attribute this drone to the design of the US bumper and the location of the tip of the Ti-C which is just inside of the US bumper, causing the sound waves to be trapped on the inside of the bumper and come in the side pressure baffles at the bottom sides of the trunk.
So, if you want to make your exhaust quieter, you can extend the tip a few inches past the USDM bumper, or just switch to the JDM bumper.

No, this one isn't in my head... you see, I have been busting my *** sound-deadening my car (Foam filling the fenders, sound deadening material on the interior sheet metal, dound deadening spray on the under-body, and there was a drone at 3.5K that was driving me crazy. I swapped the bumpers and there was a NOTICEABLE difference. So much so, that to listen to talk radio, my stereo is now at a 8, when before it had to be at a 15 for me to hear.
I agree there is alot in people's heads, but this was a significant difference.

8 out of 40 on a Kenwood Excellon deck with 1600 Watts and 5.1 surround sound behind it. I'm a huge audiophile, and this is my "travel" car so I spend alot of time on the highways with this car.
