Well if you look at the slight impression angle that the pellet/BB came in at, it looks that it would've came from the rear of your car at about a 65-70* angle. If you remember exactly where you parked the day you found it that way, at least I would hope you would notice it immediately that there's a chunk of paint missing.. Take a look from at that spot at about a 65-70* angle and see if you know any of the families in those homes and if they have any kids that need a swift kick in the *** to set them straight.
And also with an imprint that deep, it would've had to have came from a pretty close range, because as you said the strength of the A-pillar is pretty stout.

Just make sure you are well armed before you go there to 'get even' or 'set them straight', most kids with those kind of toys seem to have they room filled with weaponery.

Very sorry to hear that. Hope everything is ok with the repair and i hope u catch the culprit.
Anyways not tring to one up you or brag because it is not cool at all but my other car (not the evo) got shot with a 9mm 11 times. It happened while I was at my friends house. I will try to get the picture up. Again sorry to hear that man.

def not a 22 round that hit that, most likely a kid with a pellet or high-power CO2 BB gun. Just fill it with some bondo and sand it smooth. Get some touch up paint from your dealership or find a spray paint match.
