That's the problem - YOU aren't with any insurance company, right? The car is titled and insured as if it belongs to your dad, correct? That's where the dishonesty and deceit comes in, which could bite you.

IN NJ, as long as the car wasn't stolen it is covered. Your dad is in for a lot of grief when they start to ask why he lent you the car, where you live, and if you own your own car/insurance but in the end they have to pay out for a valid insurance policy on a car registered to your dad.

If your dad went out to dinner in teh city and a valet guy wrecked his car they would pay too, this is a little bit more of a confusing mess.

My guess is that you don't have or need a car living in Brooklyn. You were visiting your dad but it was too late to take mass transit home so he lent you his weekend car to get home...

i dont believe you will have any problems w/ ur insurance. now if u require them to cover your injuries, you'll run into a wall.

I was in a similar situation this February. I totaled my Evo when I hit some black ice. It was insured under my dad's name and he was listed as the only driver for that car, but I was on the insurance policy as a driver. Insurance had no problem covering it.
