Sounds like a really odd comparison. Not only are the cars TOTALLY different from each other, but they're also in different price categories and targetted at different people.
The Evo is aimed at young-mid 20 yr olds who are into the whole rally experience.
The M3 and S4 are targeted more towards late 20+ who are more well established and have more money and want a refined but powerful car.
And the 996 is purely a 40+, businessman "I want my Porsche cuz I can't afford a Ferrari" type person.
Personally a really weird comparison....especially in SCC of all places. Hello Sport Compact.........theres nothing sport or compact with 3 of those cars.

I Think that the M3 can not be calssified as a late 20's car. Yes there are a lot of people who might want it, but the fact remains that a new M3 is about 50G, and I don't care who you are, that is still a lot of money. I am all for nice cars at a young age, I was blessed with them, and am very appreciative, but to say that the EVo is only designed for 25 year olds I think is selling it short. I think the reason that most people in that age group know about the EVO is from games like Grand Tourismo, and also they might read less well known car magazines that highlight foreign cars. I think that a lot of older buyers will begin to get into the EVo as it becomes a little more mainstream and well known.

This is more like a "look what the evo can keep up with or beat despite being 1/2 the price and having the interior of a 12k hyundai".
I am certain the other cars win the comfort and amenities awards, but pure performance it should be pretty damn close amoung them all.
I tried to get a guy in a 996 C4 to race me, but he drives like a little girl..... he used to have a yellow 993 that he never drove hard too.... blaaaa

I wouldn't be surprised if you guys can walk a 996 C4S. I drive an '02 911 turbo, and I played with a guy in a silver evo on I-287 a few months back. I won't say I was ever at risk of losing, but I was *hugely* surprised at how well he could hang. I can't his brakes were as good; thought sure I'd get run over when slowing for traffic! The C4S is down about 120hp from my car.
We both exited I-95 at Exit 5 in Greenwich, CT. If you're out there . . . I gave you the thumbs up!

I have PACED a Corvette z06 on the superslab, and crept away from an E46 M3 on the freeway as well..
4th gear in the EVO typically puts you at 3500 RPM depending on driving speed, and we all know what happens when you WOT at that RPM range..!!!
But then I ran with a GST Eclipse, and only had him by MAYBE a car length from a dead stop to 60 ish..
NO launch mind you, cuz all these rubbernecks roasting the clutches is fricken SCARING ME..
EVO performs different each time...
Sometimes she feels a lttle pokey, and other times feels fast as hell..
I don't get it..
