A battery is not going to effect the way the car drives. The battery is used for startup and then everything else runs off the alternator. If the car doesn't start it's the abttery most likely, if it doesn't drive well then it's the alternator.

The 3 hours for R&R seems about right for an Evo. I personally remove the pass axle and remove the alternator from the bottom.
Mitsubishi's list price on a factory reman. alternator is $281.67 though. If they charged you more for an aftermarket reman, I wouldn't be comfortable with even having one on my car.

Well when the alternator goes bad and the more and more you drive the car, it actually kills the battery because everything is now trying to runs of the battery. 95% of the time when an alternator goes bad the customer also needs to replace the battery because of trying to drive the car more.
