I loaded the cd up and all. It worked fine just once, after that i kept getting that error i posted up. I'm stumped. I'll try it again sometime over the weekend after work, anymore suggestions?

I've been having the same issue with my LC-1. First time I tried the Best Buy Dynex cable, that one is a total piece of junk and complete waste of money. I bought one from Radio Shack and at least now it connects, but it only lasts for about 5 minutes before my LC-1 completely freezes up and disconnects from LogWorks. Now if I plug it into my g/f's brand new laptop with Vista on it, everything works perfectly fine for however long I want. The only thing I can think of trying is setting the buffer lower in Control Panel so it transmits the data as soon as it receives it instead of holding the data until it reaches a certain limit.

So today i was trying to connect the cable to my laptop w/a serial to usb adapter and my laptop couldn't recognize it. Did this all before i connected it to the lc-1. I tried my tactix cable to see if something was up w/the usb ports but it read my ecu just fine. Any clues? The adapter i got was one from Bestbuy since i read on here the Radioshack one isn't too great. I'm stumped.
I think in total I have used 12 different converters.
I use one from Purple Computers. http://www.pfranc.com/usb/usb.shtml
It is the only one I trust.
At first I was like you and thought it was the converter...and after using many different ones I thought there was no way the converter was the problem. Nope. It still is.
Make sure you have the correct drivers installed for it.
Sometimes what I need to do is plug in the USB converter first. Let the computer recognize the converter and then plug in the serial connection afterwards.
