Help.Need advice on buying car back from ins after accident

SHOULD I BUY IT BACK FOR 5500$?
Hi there guys.Long story short.Got into accident, didnt hit anyone but 6-8inches high curb. Right front wheel barely hanging there and rear wheel is croocked,so something is bent there. 1 major issue is oil filter got punctured and oil licked out and motor was running until it stalled and didnt start anymore. At night and raining hard nobody noticed oil leaking.
So its totalled
Damages
Rt fr fender
Rt fr side skirt
Front bumper
Axle assy
rt fr brake caliper
Intercooler
Oil cooler
Strut
wheels
tires
Downpipe,muffler
Lower braces
Rotors
and more suspension parts
No frame damage
Me and my buddie could do most work ourselvs and buy most parts here online and used or new evo9 motor. And i have ets not installed fmic and set of bbs mr wheels.
So insurance astimate was 22K$ without engine repair. Actual cash value is 26.5K$. How much do you think i should buy it back for? If i should at all?

My insurance got back to me. SHOULD I BUY IT BACK FOR 5500$?

I just dont think i should let go of this car, doesnt look too bad to me.

Let me know what you guys think
Thanks

If you don't mind parting it out and taking the time to do all the business with buyers, then you'd easily make a decent profit. The main factor is if the motor is damaged internally. I'm sure you could tear it down and see what it needs. Might not be a bad investment.

you need someone in the bodyshop business look at the car you dont want it if the motor is not in straight. if they can fix that then hell yea I would buy it for 5500, just know the car will have a salvaged title.

i've done this before and what i can suggest is...ask them to lower the price a bit more. the price that they gave you is always negotiable. you have to remember, you need all the money that you can get. another thing, you don't know exactly how much work is involve and how much money is needed until you are in the middle of the project.

Thanks for responses guys. I spoke to few people from tuning shops and was given an advice to pass on this. So its a no go. i was told that anything that involves motor rebuild or swap will get really pricey. And realisticly will take too much time and effort for person with full time job to handle if i wanted to do it myself. So i passed and will be looking for another evo.

I can tell you from experience that buying cars back from the Insurance company can benefit you highly, I think its really up to the relationship you can develop with the shop that is going to do the repairs, we have an Evo shop that works with the Repair shop right next door and any time there is a wrecked evo we are able to do some really great things for the previously wrecked cars. One thing is getting it on a frame straightener to make sure that it's really able to be straightened out.

Yeah, the people who told you it wasn't worth it probably bought the car from under you.

Evo parts are crazy expensive, you could always part it out and make a killing.
