Can I break my lease? Dealer CAN'T FIX my MPG problem...
#46
some more details -
MPG problem started in the summer. It's been going on for at least 7 months. I always check my tire pressure and keep them at 29/32.
I'm taking it to the dealer on friday, if they can't figure it out, will try another dealer.
I have no knowledge about cars and don't have a clue what an O2 sensor is or how to replace it. All I know is that it isn't throwing a code.

1) if u bought an evo for 20mpg u bought the wrong car. just so u feel better i avg 4-7mpg on $8/gallon racegas only. i don't use pumpgas in that car ever. i also avg 11mpg in my land rover if i don't use the a/c.
2) in order to get out of a lease is just like an apartment lease. u must "buyout" the remainder of ur lease in order to avoid negative credit reprecussions. check ur contract to see how early u can get out w/out penalty. most car leases are 3mos b4 the lease runs out.
Example, if u have 6mos left at $300.month, u must pay the $1800 & give the car back in order to b free of the car.
3) also u must not have exceeded ur mileage alotted or that will cost u dearly.
4) the MPG rating on the car when u bought it is assuming 93octane gas in controlled conditions, NOT real world conditions. the only way u could get the sticker mileage is if u drove in a tunnel everywhere u went & the GAS u used was at least 70 degrees F or colder...

No one has even commented that the EPA regulations (the "controlled" conditions testing) haven't changed the standards since 1975, unless they changed them recently and I wasn't aware... Its why the Hummers didn't have EPA ratings, they were too heavy for testing standards. When they update it Hybrids are supposed to drop 5-10 mpg City, since the EPA testing right now just by sheer chance happens to be PERFECT testing conditions for a hybrid... Just... Thought you might want to know.
20 to 13 is bad, and if you haven't changed driving habits (I got as low as 5 and as high as 26 on my Evo, yes 5) then something is most likely wrong with the car. See if there is an Evo or at least Mitsu specific private shop nearby and have them check it out after you take it to a second dealer... Dealers are idiots anyway. At least you're not dealing with Porsche...

Seriously, I do feel bad for you that you're having problems. But gas mileage shouldn't even really be a concern. If you suddenly started dumping fuel, you're car would be significantly slower. If it's not, then I think you might just be imagining things. You need to get a wideband and do some logs. Check your maps and compare. If you're running high octane stock maps within the parameters, then you don't have any issues.

Two main reasons for poor gas mileage.. A hardware problem, front O2 sensor can cause this.. rear sensor makes no difference, its just an emissions sensor..
Seccond reason.. Poor driving habits..
Sounds like one or the other..
I regularly get 25mpg or better in mixed driving.. Drops if I am racing or under boost frequently.. Even stock I was getting over 25mpg in regular driving.. My car now has a GT35r, cams, 1000cc injectors..
Since your claiming the car is completely stock, its under warranty, you should insist that they run diagnostics on the car, and replace the front O2 sensor for good measure. The other possibility is some sort of leak in your intercooler pipes or a bad MAF, but that would likely be accompanied by other drivability problems.
13mpg in daily driving is just not normal.. Unless you spend all of your time in boost..

we don't get winterized gas in NV, where do you normally get gas? Reason I ask, there are some places in Vegas where their gas is less then adequate. I would try to use the Rebel 76 gas, they have been pretty good for me. Send me a pm, I can meet up with you sometime and check out the car

My buddy leased an 07 STi without a problem. Leasing theses cars are ****ing stupid, you pay REAAAALY high prices because they are expensive and if you mod you have to put it back to stock or you'll have to pay the premiums.
