btw i got my first speeding ticket today in the worst turn of events imaginable. im sure everyone says every ticket is bs, but this really was complete and utter bull crap. you wouldnt believe it, like i really dont think you would, i didnt. i mention this cause im 17 and its my first and it shouldnt even count. ive promised before that if i ever wreck my evo, even if its not my fault, i invite anyone to come to my household and deal me the biggest *** whooping possible. you have my word.

and by the way, all the kids that drive civics, bmws, mustangs, or camaros ask me to race them, and i deny them. so if your kids gonna race, he'll try it in any car. my friends claim that they drive their slow cars faster than i drive my fast car.

not really, how many 16 year olds do you know living by themselves with a job that covers all of their expenses. I doubt you know many, if any.

I think people are confusing maturity with experience...

Maturity comes from proper and appropriate behavior at appropriate times and can be aquired from many places, and very quickly given exposure to it.

Experience comes from being exposed to these things for a period of time, and acting in a mature manner.

Driving in a mature manner is 1000% different than driving in an experienced manner as your instinctive and appropriate reactions to unpredictable events can only come from experience.

There are plenty of older drivers who are mature but inexperienced also.. But shame on them for not aquiring the skills that they have already had the time to work on.

My opinion about a kid getting a performance car has nothing to do with the money, if their parents want to spend the money, so be it.. I'm a bit jealous, but to each his own. But if your an inexperienced driver in a powerful car, regardless of your propensity to do stupid things, when the unexpected happens, its your experience, NOT MATURITY, that will affect the outcome (Yours or other's lives)

FWIW I have always owned performance cars, except my first car which was a 1979 Ford Crown Victoria. My parents gave me that car.

I was always a mature and trustworthy driver, and never got into trouble. I did stupid things and was lucky I never hurt anyone. My point is how I would react in an emergency situation NOW, is completely different than how I would have then.

oh yeah, lets go ahead an rip on this guy for having good parents. did you have a bad childhood or something? there are many people out there who have had the same thing happen. their parents buy them a good car. if your parents were going to buy you a car and you had to choose between an evo and a 4dr pos, what would you choose? honestly? would you choose the pos?

That argument fails horribly since you're basing the validity of the decision on what a still maturing individual would do in a situation that heavily affects them. If you offered a child ice cream for every meal I'm sure they'd do it but that doesn't mean ice cream is part of a balanced diet.

This is probably one of the most on-point posts ever about this topic of young kids driving an Evo (or ultra-high-performance car)

I partly agree with what MalibuJack is saying in the sense that maturity and experience is separate but at the same time, experience is pointless without maturity. This is none more evident than with people like Nick Hogan who have a lot of experience driving fast cars but don't have the maturity to handle them properly. This is why I don't think young people and fast cars mix, they can have all the experience in the world but they are still growing mentally and are not psychologically adults.
