gas problem

Let's play another guessing game
When I bought the car I was able to do around 200 miles per tank, mostly streets... few weeks back engine light came on and I went to AutoParts to scan the code, and it said there was a problem with Cat (somethine like Cat Converter Trashold).. 2 days latter, light goes off by itself... But now i notice that I cant get to 160 miles on full tank.. I drive the same like before, but my miles per galons are lot lower. What could cause it, could it be the cat.. I'm getting TBE from BR in few months, I dont want to change the cat now... do you guys think it's cat or could it be something else...

with out actually seeing the car and being able to diagnos the problem, i would geuss that you cat is bad, and it may have taken a 02 with it.

Winter blend fuel has adverse affects on milage, that might be a place to start. Check your gas station to see if they participate in winter blended fuels/

daaaamn.. i ddint know that.. woooow. crazy. Thanx for info
I Think i'm being to damn cheap now.. I should go to Mitsubishi and get the OEM cat.. and than when I get a 3"TBE from BR, I will get it with delete pipe.. When i'm ready to go on emissions testing, I will stick a cat on..
but I just wanted suggestions from you guys on what else could the problem be

the code might be stored in the ecu and may be dumping more fuel as cheap security... maybe cat is having a problem? stock cat?

the cat is like a filter for the exhaust. it wont effect ur gas mileage. it only there for emission purpose.

You probably got a cat ineffeciency code. It probably wasnt even a registered code and more a pending one. I wouldn't be too worried about the cel. Reset the ecu and run it through its cycles. Your mpg should get back to normal.

The RPMs have dropped since I reseted the ECU. I dont know why. I only disconeceted the battery for a minute and than connected it again... when i start the car, the rpms go down to 6000 and then after few seconds go back to normal... i'll see how long this will last.

I've got a stock 8 cat sitting in my basement. After you get a price from mitsu for a new one, pm me. I'll ship it to you for $100.

front 02 sensor could be going bad, causing the drop in mileage and fouling out the cat causing the cat inefficiency code. (though I don't recall which way the 02's tend to fail, as in causing the car to run lean or run rich when they start to fail)
