There are those who may not want test pipes:

1) People living in California ($1500 no cat fine IIRC)
2) People who don't like the annoying smell of a test pipe
3) People running in a street class that requires a cat
4) People who prefer to limit their impact on the environment

All others feel free to run test pipes.

I didn't know Megan had a real High flow cat?.....Are you sure you don't have a resonated test pipe because sometimes they are advertised as a high flow cats?

Does it look like this?

Megan Racing Test Pipe/Resonator- EVO

The Megan Raciing Hi Flow Catalytic Converter, also called a test Pipe or Resonator, allows more air flow thru the pipe, resulting in more horse power. The straight-through design is made with stainless steel with a chrome finish and is a direct bolt on.
* For off-road/race only*

Spec & Features

- 3" turbo inlet, works out great along with our downpipe and cat back.

- Increase air flow and performance

- 100% Stainless steel with chrome finish

- Bolt-on design, easy installation

+1

I was under the impression Megan ONLY made their "High Flow Cat" which is a funny... If you look down the thing, it's clearly a test pipe. The only differences over the years were between their Evo VIII and IX test pipes. The IX one had a resonator whereas the VIII was completely straight through.

Check out like Perrin or someone for a true HFC. They aren't that expensive really, but isn't it a shame the most legal route for exhausts is the more expensive? lol

And that is a resonated test pipe, not a ceramic cat or a metallic cat.

F the environment, what'd it ever do for you? j/k You already have bought a High flow, just keep that in and do your passengers (and yeah, the world) a favor, by not polluting and smelling like poop.

I kept mine the test pipe for a long time because my TBE came with one and I wasn't gonna spend 150 to lose hp just to decrease a little smell and save the world.

Also, just FYI, back when I got dynoed a friend had an Evo with about the same mods as me and 13 less WHP with a high-flow then I had with my testpipe. So, depending on the highflow, it can make a decent difference, but not worth the smell IMO

I am willing to bet that was a ceramic cat. The differences should be much less when comparing a metallic cat to a test pipe.

I'm confused now. Will i even be able to pass the emissions test with this? And is my old test pipe better than this?

You will probably be able to pass emissions with a ceramic HFC. For maximum horsepower, you want either a testpipe or a 100 cell metallic cat. Testpipe you certainly won't pass emissions, and with a 100 cell you probably won't. Things can also be aversely affected by really aggressive cams, etc.

Your best bet would be to keep your OEM cat for emissions purposes and use either a 100 cell cat or testpipe for your everyday horsepower needs

Here is an actual dyno compare between an Ultimate HFC and the 100 cell:
