I have read about a few other people having this problem. I believe it was caused by a bad grommet in one of the front wheel wells. Search around for that

Either that or maybe something related to the HVAC system

How often do you notice this (meaning "always" is a subjective term)? Are you currently running your AC? Wet or dry conditions outside? Does your neighbor have a sprinkler system?

if the grommet /cap on the narrow band o2 sensor is not installed your floor will fill up with water too.

kept thinking I had a little bit of water in the car until I looked under the carpet.
just look at the underbody on the passenger side next to the cat. where the cat wires go into the body, make sure the cap is attached.

No my neighboor does not have a sprinkler system and no im not running the A/C. This usually happens during and after rain or when its real humid out. It's leaving a terrible smell in the car...

You're talking about underneath the car right...?

yes, for some reason a significant amount of water comes into the car up through that hole.

There was a TSB about early '03 Evos leaking at some grommet and causing problems with the ECU. They used to have this info listed at CNN Autos, but I can't find it now.

quit messing with the a/c, cause it is obviously a leak if it happens after rain! you're carpet is starting to get sour cause a carpet can hold alot of water. at the shop i work at, we remove the carpet and put it under a heat source. (like a heater.) sometimes that doesn't work. first, remove the interior at the affected area or the whole interior and dry it as best as possible. you'll have to determine if the leak is coming from the front or rear and watertest the affected area with a garden hose or rainmaker. eventually water will seep in and viola! sometimes it's a ***** trying to get a leak to show up. good luck!
