Downsides of not having a front crash beam?
#23
I would never sacrifice safety for performance, I won't lower the car for that reason, let alone mess with the front crash beam.
What good is your Evo if it's not repairable or the driver is severely injured?

I just got my EVO a few months age and am looking toward doing some road racing. I am planning on taking off the brace for the events, putting it back on for street use. Not only will it lighten the car but the crash bar blocks 25% of the air to the intercooler. Heat soak is a problem in Saint Louis during the summer track events so the extra airflow over the core is a big help. Its easy to take the bar off and put it back on once you have done it a couple of times.

this may be a stooopid question, but why. lets say you hit a pole straight on, wouldn't it be the same if you were at stock height or lowered. now hitting an object that would have been level at stock height compared to being higher when lowered then yes it would be useless. am i just not getting it???

I had my C-west front modified to clear the crash beam for the aforementioned reasons. I'm big on performance and looks, but safety is first and foremost....being able to make a claim on my insurance would be nice too! If the crash beam weighed 300lbs I could see this debate getting more heated, but because it's well less than 50lbs it just doesn't seem worthwhile removing a brace that ties the car together at the front. We spend all this money adding aftermarket bracing yet remove factory pieces for weight savings?
