Madness and Crazy Fixes
Hey guys, I'm sure there are quite a few do-it-yourself'ers, backyard mechanics and home tuners out there. We've all come to a point at some point or another, during an install, where we're on the edge of sanity because something that should otherwise be straight forward and/or simple, decides to just be a pain in the *** for no reason. When these momentary moments of madness strike, some will shine in the most brilliant of fashions. Finding fixes to these problems that to most, may seem like utter insanity. I wanna share such a moment and see if anyone else has anything similarly insane... or better yet... out right MAD!
The install: Brass linkage bushings.
The crazy: Lower factory bushing just won't come out.
The catalyst: It's about 10 below freezing, I have to be somewhere in about 2 hours and I've already tried and tried for hours now while trying to be nice about it.
The MADNESS: Finally give up on all reason.... go to basement... and bring out ... the soldering iron. Yes that's right, a soldering iron. Why you ask? Well, it's freezing right? The factory bushing is rubber and the factory linkage ring is not. Heat... heat may help. So yes, I did this. Out side in 10 below freezing whether, I heat stabbed the factory bushing and melted a whole through it. It took a while indeed. And then... it just popped right out! I declared VICTORY!!!
And yeah it worked out really nicely. Cleaned up the linkage ring, pin, installed the new bushings and everything is working great. Shifts better, feels better, and my sanity has returned.

I will usually throw something when things are being a pain in the ***
Examples of thrown or soon to be thrown objects:
hammer,
wrench,
small children,
the piece I finally got out,
my fist in someones face when they say "are you having problems, do you want me to try"

I know what you mean. When I finally got that rubber bushing out, I had it in my right hand set up for a 45 degree upward arched fast ball to pitch it the hell out of dodge, when my friend suggested keeping it. "There is no way you should through that away. Not after all that work to get it out."

Doing the Timing belt/cams on my car.
The problem was breaking that crank pulley loose.
The solution was to get the breaker bar propped into the nut, put a jackstand underneath it so it was tight and suspended hanging from the crank pulley. Pulled the injector clips out of the motor. Proceeded to use the starter (i.e. flipped the key on the car for a split second) to break that ***** free. Problem solved.

lots of swearing- in both English and Spanish, then I get the proper tool and it works like a charm.
The "proper tool" has been on occasion, but not limited to, a length of pipe, hammers of various sizes, blowtorch, and other things that you normally would not use while working on a car

for sure things get thrown in my garage. I actually have this area on my wall that is meant for things getting thrown at. wether its a part, tool or just some random worthless object........it will get thrown at the wall and then a beer gets opened to calm me down to think about the situation at hand with a fresh mind.
with me it was when my boost controller wouldnt work. Screwed it all the way down and yet i was over boosting like a mother.........switched lines, did this and did that still over boosting. So I threw the needle grip pliers into my area of the wall and sat down with a beer. something told me to take the MBC apart and check the spring. it wasnt seated properly..............!!!! thats all the problem was how very simple it could have been......lol
holds boost like a champ now!!!!!

First I try to talk nice to the damn thing. Then my patience wears out and my voice gets louder and louder then I just outright scream at the thing/car! Go to the computer and look it up, go back to it. Scream some more, then I sit and think about it and what I can do. Usually after I think about it for a while I come up with something or I call someone for tips and pointers.

Ah yes, i do these type of things all the time... working underneath my car, or on a car in general, after i told my girlfriend id be busy and not to call and then she does call my phone repeatedly usually results in me answering and blowing up on her and breaking my phone or throwing anything near me.
Usually its the piece im working with and then i have to go find it somewhere lol.
I have an extremely short temper and get real pissed off at things all the time.
